Not buying any Christmas presents this year...
except 1.

We have a large family. Every year our family gets together for thanksgiving. You put your name in a bowl. Later we draw names. The name you draw is the one you are getting the $20 gift for.

Easy peasy.

It's not Christian at all. Christ mentioned no such thing.

That's the Dutch way.

They do this for "Sinterklaas"(holiday name) in all elementary schools and the first one or two years of highschool.

They also write poems and construct a container for their gift(like a paper-mache-crafted santa clause(sinterklaas), or they paint cardboard and construct a cartoon figure).

^this^

I managed to convince all my relatives and friends to not buy me any pagan gifts. I threatened that if they disrespected my wishes, I would throw their gifts out.

It worked

I quit the xmass madness over 10 years ago.. Back then, not many understood my non-participation.. and they still don't.. I might mention, that some retailers and businesses depend on the xmass season to make a profit for the year, however, many more businesses are starving in December because people put all kinds of business on hold until after the holidays.. I will lose more than half of my normal monthly income during this period.. I celebrate in January.. when the madness is gone and the millions of xmass trees are lining the streets with that stinking tinsel still hanging on the branches.. 5a

I bought my son and his new wife who live in Utah, under armour. Very expensive, but at least they will be warm. A very practical gift.

It was originally a Pagan celebration of the winter solstice. The Christian Church decided to celebrate Christ's birthday on the same exact day as the Pagan winter solstice celebration in order to convert Pagans and to compete with their party. If Jesus was actually born, he wasn't born anywhere near December 25th.

Pagan ritual is right. Google it.

Re: Not buying any Christmas presents this year...
My wife and I aren't doing the usual for family or for that matter ourselves. We decided to not do anything gift wise for anyone except our two and a half year old son. No way I could not let him enjoy gifts. Really it is no different than the usual month for him anyway and he normally gets toys sprinkled on him by us anyway. He has no real meaning of christmas, but we couldn't resist letting him enjoy the gifts from us and the rest of the family. I do feel a bit guilty about him getting gifts from other members of the family who have kids which we aren't buying for but what the hell. Who cares, I didn't ask them to buy for my kid and told everyone we weren't doing the usual.

Re: Not buying any Christmas presents this year...
I love giving gifts and always have. But for the last 5 years have been ill and on tiny fixed income. I have zero money by the 3rd week in any given month and not one penny to spend on anything fun for me or any other.

I hate it.

If it was just conscience or rebellion not to give gifts I think it would feel differently. But when you really want to and can't it's a completely different feeling altogether.

My advice to any who read this:

DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, GROW OLD.

Re: Not buying any Christmas presents this year...
I ask that nothing is bought for me this year, my son is only 3 and honestly he cared more about the moving reindeer than Santa when we did pictures. He won't know shit for shat on the day Christmas rolls around.

Of course my mother sent him a gift, and his other grandparents will, too. I wish they wouldn't. We have enough stuff cluttering us up, we live on military post housing and the house is small enough as it is.

I drew a name out of the hat and got my youngest nephew. I'm going ask my sister where she wants a gift card to. I'll just get that for the limit because I'm not going to spend additional $$$$ for shipping on top of it.

It's really just another form of wealth re-distribution. Handout dogs and welfare recipients will scream at you if you don't get them a gift!

My magic is both from Source and Soul. I love everything for what it is...a means to an end. I love the fact we are all puzzle pieces to a Grand Master Design.

Oh God, where art though? Why must our souls be shards, is it a dirty trick or lesson or a test?

Our free will is nearly begotten.
