Was working fine last night, woke up today to turn it on, nothing. NO power whatsoever. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 26764444 This is perfect, considering I have a half-finished filmscore I need to complete and the computer is just dead. I just lost about a years worth of work - I should have backed everything up. Don't get Alienware, they shit the bed if you sneeze the wrong way. The customer service sucks and tells you something different every time you call. You drop $3000 on one of these computers and the cocksuckers can't even take 10 minutes out of their day to try and troubleshoot for you if you're out of warranty. So much for customer service. A fucking multi-billion dollar company needs MORE MONEY to help me after I've dropped several grand on their touchy products? Fuck it, I hope 12/21/12 is the fucking end. Let it all burn. Anyone got any clue on what might be the problem? I'd like some assistance in rectifying this issue before I literally hang myself. dude ive had one since 2004 and that motherfucker is still alive & clicking...with minor upgrades here/there. it blows away the 6 others i have. maybe that's because your so cold hearted... it keeps it running cool! :P hehehe. just kidding. just in case. i'm monsterrun. PFFFFFFT my ass If you are working in pro audio the only close to professional answer is Mac That alienware crap is for dumb assed gamers. No doubt you bought the unit thinking is would work well for film scoring and you would not need as much outboard but you learned the hard way that the platform itself will not survive the heavy taxing of the processor and video card. Why anyone would even attempt to score on a laptop as a main controller is beyond me. I'm a "dumb-assed gamer" and have a number of PC games. Which is why I figured, "Hey, this computer that supposedly can handle the most resource-heavy PC games certainly can handle my 100+ track filmscores!" And usually it DID work pretty well. Why I went with a LAPTOP, as opposed to a TOWER is because I PLAY LIVE MUSIC TOO. I don't JUST film-score. I perform live, and the best way to do that is with a....GASP....laptop! I have grown up on PCs, I'm so used to Windows going over to Mac seems unnecessary. |

I don't back everything up every day, because I don't expect a computer that costs over a grand to shit the bed over absolutely nothing. So you just figured you could spend a grand and get half a mil performance and reliability? Pro audio and video costs money and takes expertise. Maybe you should look into some consulting with people who deal with it. If a guy has graduated from Full Sail RUN LIKE HELL He will get you where you are now. |

Well, I can't believe nobody mentioned the fact you can easily recover all your work. Simply pop the HDD from the alienware, into another pc, and boot up a Linux live disk, such as ubuntu. Copy any files you want to an external hdd, or a usb, then transfer onto another pc you can use. Problem solved. As for alienware, they're still the best in gaming laptops, just because you received a bad laptop, or possibly used it irresponsibly, doesn't make them a bad company. Got the thing back up and running, smoked a bowl, have since calmed down and realigned my jimmies. Computer withdrawal is arguably the most powerful jimmie rustler in modern day society. Got the thing back up and running. I WILL say this though - out-of-warranty tech support is FAR MORE HELPFUL than the regular service number. The Out-Of-Warranty people helped me out right away - their first suggestion worked right off the bat. The other people transferred me, told me to buy a new warranty, or that I'd have to send in the computer... I knew it was either completely fried, or an easy fix. And the fix was extremely simple, thankfully. (Remove battery - remove power source - drain power by holding in power button) Usually I mask my jackassery with a bit o' trolling, but I'm not gonna today. I was being irrational, but I am extremely grateful the thing is back up and running. Gonna get back to what I'm actually good at - making crazy music. | Level0 User ID: 29555207 12/10/2012 12:14 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I'm worked with computers for 20 years and had all sorts of issues with Alienware. I used to build my own custom pc's, over clock etc.. 3 years ago I bought a mac and haven't had a single problem, not even an app crash yet. The time machine software does constant backups so I never have to worry about data loss. I'm a pro writer now but still do a lot of photo, video editing and music creation. Even my macbook Air can comfortably handle live audio in Logic. I know there's a lot of Apple haters but having used and rebuilt every possible PC and OS available I've never had a computer as reliable as an Apple. Having said that,I'm no fanboy, my Samsung Galaxy Note absolutely batters my old iPhone 4s in every conceivable way |
