That isn't solving the problem at all, asshat, I already have a hard-drive. I don't back everything up every day, because I don't expect a computer that costs over a grand to shit the bed over absolutely nothing.

I bought HP my whole life. Bought an ASUS for the first time last year with an I7 and it would constantly freeze. took it back got another and this one will still freeze up t the point where you can't do anything or recover, but not as often. plus other annoyances. NEVER AGAIN for ASUS

I'm a "dumb-assed gamer" and have a number of PC games. Which is why I figured, "Hey, this computer that supposedly can handle the most resource-heavy PC games certainly can handle my 100+ track filmscores!" And usually it DID work pretty well.

Why I went with a LAPTOP, as opposed to a TOWER is because I PLAY LIVE MUSIC TOO. I don't JUST film-score. I perform live, and the best way to do that is with a....GASP....laptop!

I have grown up on PCs, I'm so used to Windows going over to Mac seems unnecessary.

So you just figured you could spend a grand and get half a mil performance and reliability?

Pro audio and video costs money and takes expertise.

Maybe you should look into some consulting with people who deal with it.

prolly about all you can do is remove the battery, press power with it unplugged for 30 secs then reinsert battery. If it powers up your all good, if not its either the psu dead or the mohterboard on the laptop. Knowing the aliens wares *i repair laptops for work* its going to be the motherboard. Dell have had a lot of issues with these.

Never buy a Computer from Tiger Direct or Comp USA, I have bought a Toshiba, Dell and HP from them-that all went bad after 6 months, which really sucks because I live in S America, and have to fly back and try to get them fixed in the 2 weeks that I am there, and that has never happened, so then I have to buy another to bring back here. Computers are 2-3 times more expensive here than the states. I have Never had a problem with compters I bought at Best Buy.

Remove the hard drive and put it in a USB case. That will give you acess to your files. Been there done that.

My m14x is still going strong 2 years on with 10 hours use per day. Just because yours has gone to shit doesn't mean they all are. Its the same generalisation mentally that will write off an entire group of people based on the actions of one.

Well, I can't believe nobody mentioned the fact you can easily recover all your work.

Simply pop the HDD from the alienware, into another pc, and boot up a Linux live disk, such as ubuntu. Copy any files you want to an external hdd, or a usb, then transfer onto another pc you can use.

Problem solved.

As for alienware, they're still the best in gaming laptops, just because you received a bad laptop, or possibly used it irresponsibly, doesn't make them a bad company.

I was being irrational; Alienware aren't terrible, even if the computer has shit the bed on me 6 times it still is pretty damn spiffy when it is actually working. Got the thing back up and running, smoked a bowl, have since calmed down and realigned my jimmies.

I WILL say this though - out-of-warranty tech support is FAR MORE HELPFUL than the regular service number. The Out-Of-Warranty people helped me out right away - their first suggestion worked right off the bat. The other people transferred me, told me to buy a new warranty, or that I'd have to send in the computer...

I knew it was either completely fried, or an easy fix. And the fix was extremely simple, thankfully. (Remove battery - remove power source - drain power by holding in power button) Usually I mask my jackassery with a bit o' trolling, but I'm not gonna today. I was being irrational, but I am extremely grateful the thing is back up and running. Gonna get back to what I'm actually good at - making crazy music. Thanks for all the words of wisdom, advice, and insults.

But with all said and done, the past 3 hours of hectic rage (I have a deadline to meet) was kind of warranted. I needed a good reality check and slap in the face. Everyone needs to be served the occasional piece of humble-pie.

I'm worked with computers for 20 years and had all sorts of issues with Alienware. I used to build my own custom pc's, over clock etc..

3 years ago I bought a mac and haven't had a single problem, not even an app crash yet. The time machine software does constant backups so I never have to worry about data loss.

I'm a pro writer now but still do a lot of photo, video editing and music creation. Even my macbook Air can comfortably handle live audio in Logic.

I know there's a lot of Apple haters but having used and rebuilt every possible PC and OS available I've never had a computer as reliable as an Apple. Having said that,I'm no fanboy, my Samsung Galaxy Note absolutely batters my old iPhone 4s in every conceivable way

This!!! ^ It doesn´t matter if you have the latest, state of the art Vulcan high-end laptop, always back everything up. And double if it is work. It just takes a sec to copy to a pendrive.

OP I am very pleased you are working again.

BUT Please get an external hard disk and a large memory stick, open a drop box account.

Back you whole hard disk to the external drive using something like Acronis True Image or Symantec Ghost.

Back up your data to the flash drive and drop box.

Flash your cmos and you should be ok.

sounds like the PSU is faulty or busted shouldnt be too expensive to get replaced.

if it was the HDD or any other components you should still be able to boot up just to see a bunch of blue screen errors

your data is most likely safe. dont give up on life just yet.

Alienware is overpriced and bullshit. They went down hill. That is probably because greed. Dell is down right dog shit anymore, really.
