HELP!!!! I used the wrong type of Diatomaceous earth, will my cat die?
I had a problem with bed bugs, someone suggested I use Diatomaceous earth. I bought a bag at the local hardware store. I dusted EVERYTHING!! waited a day then vacumed it up with the exception of what I had put on my mattress. I have a cat who was very curious about all this and was of course sniffing every thing as well. Now I am told that I had used a non food grade product which is VERY harmful to both me and my cat. I am worried to death that I have done a terrible thing. Please HELP!!!! anyone

Call a vet and ask. If your cat inhaled very much it could cause lung damage. If it was DE for swimming pool filters, and the cat ate it, it could be harmful depending on how much. A lot depends on cat's weigh how much inhaled or ingested. I don't think the cat would keel over right away, but I don't know what would happen to a small animal. Hope your kitty is ok.

If I were you I would explore the possibility of DETOXING but I don't have any idea what would be appropriate to try for DE.
