Absolutely I will survive longer that probably 99%.

When you know how to survive by having done that, and you are a friend of nature, mother nature will always take care of you (hard work required!).

...

Faith an living in realville are two different things, aren't they Burt?
 Quoting: Desert Fox

Yep.
...and Sandy made me think of some things I hadn't covered well enough. It was like a small "test run" for a mega-outtage and being on your own.

Told me a lot about people psychologically as well.
95% of them are NOT prepared mentally with how to act, what to do, how to think.....etc.
Not to mention their lack of physical preparedness.
They don't even have freaking gas cans to hold spare fuel!

It boggles the mind.

We had idiots here burning up precious fuel in their cars to go to work when they had no way to refuel their cars.
It was like they had no idea what to do....so they kept trying to do what they used to do.
It blew my mind. blink
 Quoting: Burt Gummer

I didn't really didn't need sandy to know that the vast majority of the population are locked into the normality mindset. An EMP, which is very much a reality, would reduce our population maybe 80%. The person earlier that poo pooed an EMP will be among those lost.
 Quoting: Desert Fox

They don't think of the What if. I guess they think the government will take of them, but the government will be in the same situation..
 Quoting: ~JustMe~

That's my point about normality, most are so pampered by having everything readily available at their whim, when that changes they are totally lost.

I'm the primary writer of Last Minute Tips for Parents When the SHTF. There's almost 850 tips there. I've been posting for about a year a half and trying to help people cope, because I owe a debt of grattitude to my mentors for teaching me over many decades.
Thread: Last minute tips for parents when the SHTF

The sad truth is that we have become shadows of what our ancestors were. They could do far more things because they were generalists not technicians doing some small task as popularied by Henry Ford's grand automation experiment. There's a severe cost in being a specialist to such a degree.

While illiterate people did amazing things with growing crops, raising animals, hunting, trapping, fishing, building, creating utilitarian items, making art, discovering science, engineering, etc most people today are SHEEP.

While some have a deep survival mechanism, most people are quitters. I think if you'll watch a documentary on say spec ops like the US Navy Seals, you'll see very hardened tough individuals quitting when the situation is beyond their belief in themselves.

There's an inner voice that is self-defeating. It whispers into our ears and says, "You are no good. You are weak. You are worthless. Better give up." Most people will listen to that inner voice and die.

While it is possible to do all kinds of things, especially as a community, because most people have that weakness inside of them, instead of pulling together as a community and giving each other strength, then most will pillage each other for the last morsel of bread.

The fact that most of you have no idea what to do with human waste, locate wild edilbles, build a fire, build a shelter, source water, etc means that most of you will die in a true emergency.

There's also the fact that if you all work together, that most of you can make it by sharing resources and building something wonderful and living life in abundance should a collapse occur.

Some people will die in that process. That is the way of all change.

Asking these kinds of questions is the beginning of knowledge. Wisdom is about trying to accept that people have those weaknesses. Compassion is about trying to facilitate change so fewer die.

We can't change other's opinions. Only they can choose to believe and to change. We do have a responsibility to communicate as well as we can. We might have a responsibility as spiritual people to be persuasive. There's free will, so there are limits to the depth of our persuasiveness.

If you're interested in preparing in a profound way, and in communicating the message of preparing, and in sharing resources, then please join with me on the link above.

Real abundance can translate into a meaningful wealth. It's not goofy Kumbayah type of thinking, but practical steps in making your life stronger by learning skills, storing supplies like our ancestors did, and saving seed to keep growing things. That was what they felt was wealth, and they invested in their land and home.

There is NO POINT in preparing. Don't you guys realize the nuke plants will melt down?It has also been tossed around that it could take an entire generation to get the grid back up and running. Yes, we are talking 20 years.

That "giving up" that you speak of, is, I believe, a generational thing. Generation X is the generation of quitters. I have a very close friend who studies such things and where I thought it was a man thing, lol, I've learned that it's the entire generation. We are going to be in serious trouble. Thanks for the above link, I will be pouring over it very soon and printing all valuable information.

All nuclear plants will go critical within 24-48 hours. If an EMP fried all electronics then generators will not function to provide electricity either.

The whole world would become toxic within days if the power went out on even the sunny half of the world.

Remember it takes a magneto to generate large amounts of elecricity and all magnetos would be fried....even the ones that weren't connected to the grid during the EMP.

Y'all are a bunch of morons if you believe this shit.
Humanity has done just fine without electricity before.
You grow food. You come together as a community.
You don't just fall into chaos and retarded fish frog fighting.
If you were a retarded fish frog then yes this would happen.
You aren't.
You are an intelligent being that can work together with others.
You are a pack animal, like a herd of sheep.
Your shepherd will not let you fall into panic like that.
Grow up, realize that you are BETTER than this.
Retards all believing zombie apocalypse, OMG buy ammo, yes, but buy ammo to shoot game if necessary and to protect property.

All will be well. Get in touch with your community.
If you are alone, you will not survive.
If you work together, you'll be fine.

I am glad you are coming over to check out that topic. Anyone is welcome, even those who would challenge my beliefs, for it is in the dialectic process of discovering truth that real Truth come out. The more people look at phenomena and think of historical and innovative ways of coping, then the better our world could be.

Most people have no idea how to live anymore. They work at terrible jobs that they loathe, hate themselves, hate others, and buy shiny toys to momentarily make it all go away. Meanwhile their body's suffer with obesity, they treat their familes abominably, they are depressed, they are spiritually and morally bankrupt.

In ancient times, like-minded people lived in communities. As civilization grew, the tribes were crowded together and tried to live harmoniously. Of course most tribes were similar in composition and this allowed there to be less conflict. The more varied the tribe, the more differences there were. The proximity of another tribe meant more conflict as tribes competed for vital resources.

Today, we have intense amounts of people living in a small area. The number of species, both plant and animal, cannot survive based upon the carrying capacity of the Land. The only way a forest or meadow can survive is by all of the species working in harmony. If one apex predator kills the food supply, then the entire ecosystem suffers.

Anyone in an urban environoment is probably a specialist and hasn't the tools, skills, or supplies in order to become an agrarian generalist.

The availability of rainwater and groundwater is not sufficient, and so water is piped in to support their basic need to stave off dehydration and to clean themselves and keep disease and illness at bay.

There is not sufficient firewood to heat their domiciles or to cook.

There are not enough plant and animal species within their region to feed them.

All of these things require a supply chain to provide to these technicians so that they continue to do their specialized roles. In medieval times, the generalists lived at the periphery and sent their goods to the capitol. Today, corporate interests grow and ship these goods to the consumer. The smallest break in the supply chain will result in a loss of basic services.

Since people have forgotten how to live like their ancestors, in the time needed to relearn, most people will die. Think about it logically. It is Winter in the USA. From now until the first harvest of any sizable amounts of produce is six months.

In history, the long period of Winter-early Summer was survivable only because of abundant supplies saved up by preserving meat (jerky), drying beans, grain, and foraging for some water, firewood, and scant plant and animal sources.

Sure, Redbud trees have some seed pods on them. Maple sap can be harvested. Still, most food is harvested in the Fall, and if you don't have those supplies, then you should be purchasing them now.

If portion sizes continue to decline in amounts, and food prices increase in cost due to things like the Great Drought, then purchasing addition food supplies and rotating the food to prevent spoilage would be the easiest way to save money and actually is a form of investment.

Most of the elderly, sick, handicapped, and the very young would die in the first few days. No POTABLE water in 3 days will kill humans.

After 2 weeks, people will be killing others for food and disease from the dead (mentioned above) will fester and contaminate the water, air, and soil in large areas....killing off many more than the first wave.

History also shows that the biggest danger to life during a large catastrophic event, is rogue governments, armies, militia, gangs, anarchy, death squads, roving bandits, and lynch mobs.

Imagine 2-3 million prisoners escaping in the US and imagine the 13 million illegals who are already here, going on a free for all.

 Quoting: overwhatshername

Ask TEPCO.

All plants are built around an auto shut down feature in any emergency. No one can stop that, it's part of the design.

Also, in order to turn hot water from a nuclear reaction into steam which drives a turbine into a magneto then into electricity. Magneto = a rotating magnet that weighs hundreds of tons, surrounded by copper wire which also weighs hundreds of tons. The copper and magnets will get fried in an EMP because because they will act like an antenna just like in the Tesla generator.

Re: IF SHTF:::::Half of all Americans Won’t Survive 2 Weeks without Electricity - WILL YOU?
A new study conducted by World Net Daily, looked into the overall preparedness level of the American public; what they found is pretty troubling. Almost 50% of the people who were polled said they would not be able to survive for more than 2 weeks without the electricity. An astonishing 75% of them said they would be dead within two months.

What’s most shocking about the survey, is the fact that most Americans realize how unprepared they are, but are still not willing to take the steps they need to take to ensure their survival. If you know you would be dead in a matter of weeks, doesn’t it make sense to do something to safeguard yourself form that threat?

I think that many many people are tired and they are just ready to accept their fate and get it over with.We even see threads here often saying they wish their time would come or they are ready to go.
There is not a lot to look forward to any more and many of us are just tired of struggling to keep on struggling.

I don't get it. Why you need electricity to survive? You still have 2 arms and 2 legs. That's enough.

Add to that list all the Alcoholics. Drug users. Meth addicts. Cocaine addicts. Mental patience. Pedo's. Rapists. Gang Bangers. Bikers. Its a long list of fringe that have nothing to loose and will just keep going till they are killed or die of natural causes.
