Seems like emotions are high....things are intensifying. I have found myself..being nicer sometimes and being meaner sometimes. Anyone else notice this ? Could just be me. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 26848087 United States 12/10/2012 10:20 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I'd lean towards meaner though obviously it depends on the crowd you are around, your physical appearance, fiscal situation, etc. that will likely influence the majority of people's views on this. If you ask me, people are able to be outright mean to each other and realize this from an early age because they know there will be no real consequences. Those who get crapped on on the other hand know there will be more harsh consequences for them since they are the ones who fought back and likely even had to hit first. I know in my school they literally did come down harder on the bullied kid who fought back than the bully themselves (bullied kid would be handcuffed by the police and taken to the local jail, bully just had their parents pick them up, less suspension time, etc). As adults, it isn't much different. Weak/dumb people can put on their flashy aggressive facade, push their way around and know that no one will do anything for fear of retribution from police. Most people who act the toughest have never taken a real punch, nor felt an armbar or rear naked choke, but the fact is that it doesn't matter. Image matters more than true toughness now, humility doesn't have the same place it once did. Think about it, picture the wild west, would you walk up to just any average person and start talking shit? Start insulting them, their family, their beliefs, etc. in broad daylight without fear of retribution? Probably not, because that person just may shoot your ass. Or for a more modern example, would you walk up to a member of MS-13? Zetas Cartel? Hezbollah? and talk shit straight to their face? Probably not because you know in one way or another, you will face retribution for your disrespect and the police and military will probably remain hands off with them. Suddenly it doesn't matter if the person is ugly, fat, bald, skinny, sloppily dressed, you treat that individual with the respect that should actually be afforded to all people. (this is not to be misconstrued as an endorsement for any of those groups, but merely an example to illustrate my point). Basically, people don't respect each other because there is no tangible reason to. I hate that respect seemingly has to come from deeper levels of fear rather than out of genuine love for each other but I just don't see it changing. People don't really care to love and until the issues of scarcity are solved once and for all, people are going to be assholes in one way or another and as our society becomes more sheltered and micromanaged by the .gov, people will feel less of a need to be nice and respectful, instead treating those things as signs of weakness rather than strength. |

Dance and sing and their buddies mangled in the wrecked car over the hill screaming. Joy and lovey dovey while being robbed and house set on fire. Would not we all be happy? Why does man not just be happy? Because man is exposed to his ever changing unpredictable environment called habitat. No man is not an ostrich that lives with his head in the dirt hole. No man is not a rock or slug. Man is complex in habitat of complexity due to perplex and vex man..even that man who has a past and chest full of happiness. |

Its just been a quiet year and I've enjoyed the lack of drama that sometimes invades our lives. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 28867210 also, I should note, I rid myself of a lot of mean toxic people at the beginning of the year (including some family members) who were notorious shit-stirrers and just plain mean every chance they got. that has made a huge difference in my life as I am much happier. |

I do believe that the 'non-believers" and atheists have become a lot more aggressive and nasty towards believers or anyone who doesn't agree with them. You can see this in the online forums where people are just plain mean and nasty with what they write to each other. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 1110734 United States 12/10/2012 11:47 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The same. In the old days, people were more overtly mean by certain actions like racism or sexism, but in general they maintained a facade of politeness. That was common in the South in the USA. Today, a person has a lot of power to wreak havoc by making a few comments online and be seen by thousands. There's few people who were interested in BDSM in the old days. It was at the periphery of sexuality. Now it's gone mainstream. One could argue that it isn't amount meaness at all, so you can't use that in this arguement. In term of violence as a litmus test of meanness, we're capable of torture in the same respect as humanity has used throughout history. In terms of slavery as a litmus test of meanness, there probably are more slaves today then at the peak periods of history. It all depends upon the measurement of slavery as a phenomena. Some like to point to a decline in values or civility, but it's probably equal. We haven't advanced much in terms of a species in this area. We know more in terms of the mass of knowledge and discovery, but people as a whole are probably less educated than they were in 1920. |

Is that nicer or meaner? Up to you. My magic is both from Source and Soul. I love everything for what it is...a means to an end. I love the fact we are all puzzle pieces to a Grand Master Design. Oh God, where art though? Why must our souls be shards, is it a dirty trick or lesson or a test? Our free will is nearly begotten. |
