Its is not just a G, but a fish hook, to catch fish, fish is a symbol for spiritual food.

The parable were Jesus took the 5 loafs and 2 fishes and multiplied them, is symbolic of him taking there current knowledge understanding and expanding it, to feed the people who where hungry for the teachings.
