So far, no response has shown me wrong. So far, you just have Pavlovian responses from people who have been turned into "prepper" sheep. Who are the "prepper" sheep? Those who are convinced of a quick, impending doom which they must prep for -- prepping with all kinds of goods and services they must buy, and they must buy it all for themselves. It is an ever-man-for-himself atheistic social Darwinian survivalist mentality combined with consumerism, where people are convinced they must do it all alone (because this sells the most crap). But to get them to be like this, they must be turned into radical Ayn Rand types, who are selfish, care not for anyone else, and this ends up with the "come close to me, and I will shoot you" mentality. The mentality of a killer. It is, also, the mentality which, if real doom happened, would lead to the preppers being the first killed off -- in the end, it will only be a group of people working together who can survive. The whole prepper mentality is a self-destruct waiting to happen.

I've been prepping for over a year but I own no
weapons aside from a BB gun and I'd never
aim it at a person.
Most preppers just want to survive to see
another day, at least that's how it is around here.
We prep for winter storms or the occasional power

I said I can explain the reason why preppers are despised. Obviously, it is due to generalizations. I am not saying I think all follow this model, but it is tendency people see when they see a prepper.

Additionally, we are aware that many (if not most) of our neighbors are less prepared than we are to some degree. When TSHTF, we will be able to offer them help a LONG time before the government gets off its' collective ass to render any measurable assistance. Look at the survivors of Sandy. Some STILL don't have electricity over a month later, and we saw dumpster diving within a day or two. Would you rather depend on a neighbor or a dumpster? Better yet, why not stock some food and water so that you don't even HAVE to make that decision?

Ive been prepping since 06'...hard. .50 cal, ar's, food, even a railcar underground. The main reason being "just in case", but the second reason is exactly as the OP mentions...im psychotic, kinda.

Like I could never just randomly go apeshit like the movie Falling Down, BUT...I dream of a shtf scenario every single time I go into public. I dream of the stupid imbiciles who waste their time drinking and drugging starving to death or getting caught in a Fema Camp.
I dream of laughing at people as they starve and try to survive some global disaster while they beg for just bread crust. I dream of technology such as iphones and internet go the way of the dinosaurs and people having to actually DO something besides collect welfare and play xbox.
I dream of the days when the wild west returns and it becomes survival of the fittest because being a survivalist in a world of "gimme now" people is becoming intolerable.

Idk why I feel this way really. Im not looking for chaos out of spite or to prove Im right and the sheep are wrong. I think order can be established out of chaos and the people in power after such an event will undoubtedly be preppers of similar thinking and that seems better than being screwed daily by those in power now.

The classic Pavlovian responses have all been yours as you have instilled your beliefs then responded to them and you re not open to what anyone else has to say.

Consider the basic differences between a prepper and a non-prepper and you will find that being prepared far outweighs a nothing ever happens attitude and most preppers are not isolated individuals but instead are families.

Families that are not completely dysfunctional have a wanting to keep their family warm, fed and safe basic life preservation and the continuation of ones family.

Absolutely no one knows when or what will happen in their lifetimes and a few generations ago, people understood that and their philosophy was save for a rainy day.

Thus take the basic differences preppers/non-preppers during Hurricane Sandy people did not have enough food or water to sustain them nor did they consider an alternative heat or cooking source thus they suffered.

Hurricane Irene hit us hard but being further upstate our mindset is different and once it was, over we were out with a chainsaw sawing downed trees and branches and had everything needed and loaned out an extra propane heater to an elderly couple.

It was family first if you goad a person with what ifs to include what ultimately is threatening the safety and well-being of heir families of course people will become a bit testy.

Why are you prepping so you can save your neighbors?? While commendable, its pure folly to do so and as a prepper, you know that.

Rule number ONE of prepping is to tell nobody...especially a neighbor lol. So you waste your extra money on freeze dried food and ammo forgoing a new car or roof for your house in the process....while your non prepping neighbor spends his extra cash on a Beemer and his roof is brand new. Then, you decide thats okay and will feed him and his while taking it from your own family??

I am not my brothers keeper. Idc if a 5 year old girl came to my door starving while holding a box full of puppies. During a shtf scenario, I kill her and eat the dogs and sleep just fine afterwards.

Prepping to help neighbors who dont care if you die today? Nah, I'll pass because in reality...your neighbor will covet what youve managed to prep and theyll surely kill you to keep your preps for themselves and if you think otherwise, you are wrong.

I am a prepper, and I will gladly share my food with non preppers after I am done shitting it out.....

Sooo, knowing that trouble is coming, I take it that you are stocking up on food to give away to your neighbours who could have easily afforded to buy some extra... but didn't.

I don't know about anyone else's situation but
my neighbors are good, decent people and we all
help each other...so, yeah, of course I'm going to
help them.
Besides, you never know if the guy you gave a few
cans of stew to might be a paramedic who just happens
to have some antibiotic cream to offer the next time
you've got a cut that gets infected. What goes around
comes around.
