...

If you kill at a moments notice, then you will be an outlaw, sooner or later the "good" people will catch you and execute you for it.
It will not be a free for all. Communities will exist. Laws will be enforced in those communities.
If you kill one of them, expect a citizen posse to run you down and catch you.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 29307060

I beg to differ on your logic. Any civvy that decided trying a 15 year vet of the Navy is a good idea, will be shot 500 yards before his 12 gauge is in range.

Never underestimate a serviceman schooled in shooting a Colt M-16 and Bushmaster .50 cal. Thats where most will fall short. Just because you have a weapon or a hundred people, you are not gauranteed success...especially against someone trained by the government in how to kill people.

No, there will be no lynchings of this prepper unless the ational Gaurd comes to town and even then Im taking some with me. As a civvy, you have very little idea in what ONE trained killer can do to ordinary folk lol.

My object when it comes to my shelter...is make it too costly to even try to come near it. If a group of ten people try to attack and I kill half by the time theyre 500 yards out...do ya think the other 5 are gonna keep coming? Doubtful.

Doesnt mean someone cant get in a lucky shot, but as a serviceman..or ex serviceman, I gaurantee it wont be some civilian.
 Quoting: Iamtheone

Nice. But you can not defend 360 degrees at once.
They only have to distract you, while others, burn you out.

Defending Your stuff is fine. That's great, I'm talking about Attacking people for their stuff.
If you are killing innocent people to get their stuff, you are a outlaw.
Outlaws will suffer JUSTICE. Sooner or Later.
No matter how good a shot, they think they are.
Study History.

I'm talking about Attacking people for their stuff.

And that poster just essentially said they'd kill your 3 year old for an apple.

People like that will eventually end up lynched no matter how much they think they're Johnny Rambo.

Re: I can tell you why so many people despise "preppers"
Because so-called "preppers" despise everyone else and look forward to the day they can get away with a shootout over a can of beans. The attitude of the preppers is what gets them disliked: they are psychos in the making, many who look forward to the time they can get away with being a serial killer. They look down upon others as scum to kill when the time is right, instead of looking at the world with compassion. They care for no one. And they tend to keep repeating the mantra, "It's happening soon," all with a wry smile on their face, showing how much they look forward to the destruction of the world, and if people say "no it isn't," they act so stuck up about being "awake" that no one can get through to them.

They are as low as they come.

Re: I can tell you why so many people despise "preppers"
I'll decide if I want to share anything with my neighbors after the Shtf and after I get to know them. Lets just say I don't have a clue to who my neighbors are and won't have until they decide to be more sociable. These days people really try to maintain their privacy. Most of the people I know are through business relationships. Oddly enough I know more about them than my actual neighbors.

Duh
 Quoting: Mr. Toppit

I've lived in my house for 20 years, and the only neighbors I'm familiar with are the ones next door. We're not friends, but they are good neighbors. The rest of the people on my street have never even said hello to me. I've tried, but they are very unfriendly. All of them.

The malcontent responses already shows the truth of what I have said.

The way so-called preppers talk about guns and shooting people dead once the shit hits the fan - the mental instability is quite, quite clear. And the fact that they think they are "awake" while constantly getting "doom" wrong should tell them how clueless they really are.

I agree.

In my opinion you are 100% correct about the folks who talk about killing and eating each other over cans of beans etc. Its allot like the sick fantasy 'race wars' where the whites will finally have a chance to shoot the blacks they don't like.

In particular I like your comments about the blending of every-man-for-him-self plus the mainstream consumerism. Its very funny really, all these guys think they are being all rugged and individual but in fact they are just doing as they are told and buying crap they don't need. Very LOL.

I consider my-self somewhat well prepared for some kind of catastrophe, but only because I'm already accustomed to living on my own in a very cold climate.

If you think you are so well prepared for a disaster or living off the grid etc. I have an idea for you to try. Grab your bug out bag or whatever and take a hike into the north woods of Maine, and see how long you last. I give most people about 6 hours, maybe less this time of year.

This guy thought he knew what he was doing and stayed out over-night on a particularly cold night.

[link to www.seacoastonline.com]

The coldest temperatures I remember here, was -29F with zero wind. On a windy night the windchill factor can bring it much lower. To survive this for any reasonable period of time you generally need wool and fur. People die all the time because their clothing turns to ice after getting water-logged etc. I remember a story of a snowmobiling group that went out and one of their party died for just this reason. He didn't have a waterproof suit and even though it was cold and in the middle of winter it started raining, and his friends just couldn't keep him warm.

I enjoy winter camping from skis, and have dealt with all kinds of conditions.

For the most part you guys arn't prepared for shit, and 99% of your 'gear' will be useless.

Re: I can tell you why so many people despise "preppers"
Theres the flaw in your logic...you think you know everything. Lemme clue you in:

Look at the Blackhawk Down scenario. Just a few trained, INJURED, serviceman took down 50 trained killers, each with an ak.

There are countless stories in history as well which describe the carnage one pissed off serviceman can do. Lookit every purple heart winners story or Medal of Honor recipients story...all involve winning against tremendous odds. Now, take those same people out of a foreign war zone and plop them into the crumbling of society scenario vs Jon and Jane Citizen and see hiw the kill numbers multiply.

You assume people will somehow come together and share things and sing Kumbaya or some shit. No...almost all people will be for themselves when the store shelves are empty. Hell...most are for themselves now, why would putting them in danger somehow make them change that thought.

Yes, I can defend 360 degrees easily in the middle of a field which is 3600x2000 yards with zero trees in the way. A .223 in the hands of a non trained civvy might be 300 yards, but more like 200 i feel. A shotgun is good to about 100 yards. A .308 is good to about 4-500 yds with an avid hunter shooting it.

I have markers for every hundred yards of distance marked on all sides. I have been trained for over a decade by the US Government on how to properly use a .50 cal in combat situations. Meaning that a group of say 200 people might make it within 500 yards of my spot, but noone would last beyond that.
I realize thats my own personal story and doesnt fit with everyone, but dont stand there and tell me something is impossible because unless you've been in a firefight at 2am in the middle of a desert with only 15 of your buddies against a hundred pissed off terrorists...and win without any losses, you have no leg to stand on.

Lmao...any civvy lynching squad is gonna get exactly what they're looking for should they ever come looking. Dont be so complacent....theres alot of my "types"out there and i really have a hard time believing anyone will play police in a time where a can of beans will get you shot. Who would apply for such a job lol.

Holy cow, the military (if you were even in a military) brainwashed you good. You really believe that you can do this? Do you have tons and tons of ammunition for your beloved .50? I hope you are talking about the M2 and not the M82. There is a huge difference between being with 15 armed and trained guys on a mission, and being on your own.

Listen very carefully, your plan might work against a group of idiots, and there will be groups of idiots. I doubt they will be the ones that get you. The idiots that take you out arent going to come gunning for you into your shooting range. They are going to arrive when you are cold and weak and you will barley see it coming. The truth is that you are not more bad-ass or more capable then a civilian. You are a regular human like everyone else. You might have some specific knowledge, but plenty of other people do as well.
There are plenty of ways to attack you or any other target that don't involve guns and shoot outs in your field. (btw LOL at 'Yes, I can defend 360 degrees easily in the middle of a field which is 3600x2000 yards with zero trees in the way.) Defend against what? poison gas, radiation, RF, cold, insect-swarms, fire, artillery. You are way (WAY) stupid if you think you can defend your self in an open field.

I don't care what kind of military experience you have, you sound like a regular idiot to me. I bet the ex-military people will be the first to die, probably shooting it out with each other.

And you are right. There is lot to be desired about the actual survival skills of so-called preppers. It is not, as I have said, that all preppers are the same. It is that those who are most vocal and observed are the kind which cause people not to like them, with the selfish, smug attitudes they have. They project their hate and then wonder why no one likes them? Really? But yes, being able to survive, being prepared for things which could happen, are good things and not the same thing as what lies behind the prepper with their Mad Max visions of the future...

After viewing numerous articles in the MSM belittling and marginalizing preppers, it appears that another meme generated by the left trying to cast a selfish image mocking the prepper’s independent and self-reliance.

We see all groups be they those who place importance upon family God or self-reliance thus distancing themselves from the government as being racist, biased, and intolerant along with a host of other labels.

The fact is many still have a work ethic and believe in being self-reliant and sitting somewhere after a disaster whining that the government was not there immediately to feed and clothe you is ludicrous.

The sock puppets that the AC should refer to are all those who fail to have basic preparations on hand or have developed plans for their families in case a disaster strikes.

One can't prepare for everything, and many people, don't have the resources to prepare for much. The reality is, you can't do it alone. The idea that you can is delusional. Survival always happens in cooperation with others, not alone. That is how humanity works. Alone, you die. Preppers don't get this. Well, some do -- but again, the ones which are most vocal, don't, and the way they treat and think of others (thank you for proving that point) are indeed why people don't like them. It's like a bully wondering why no one likes him!

It might be good not to over-generalize.
I've been prepping for over a year but I own no
weapons aside from a BB gun and I'd never
aim it at a person.
Most preppers just want to survive to see
another day, at least that's how it is around here.
We prep for winter storms or the occasional power
outage.
 Quoting: Stand!

Additionally, we are aware that many (if not most) of our neighbors are less prepared than we are to some degree. When TSHTF, we will be able to offer them help a LONG time before the government gets off its' collective ass to render any measurable assistance. Look at the survivors of Sandy. Some STILL don't have electricity over a month later, and we saw dumpster diving within a day or two. Would you rather depend on a neighbor or a dumpster? Better yet, why not stock some food and water so that you don't even HAVE to make that decision?

 Quoting: Eggcellent

I must ask this of you:

Why are you prepping so you can save your neighbors?? While commendable, its pure folly to do so and as a prepper, you know that.

Rule number ONE of prepping is to tell nobody...especially a neighbor lol. So you waste your extra money on freeze dried food and ammo forgoing a new car or roof for your house in the process....while your non prepping neighbor spends his extra cash on a Beemer and his roof is brand new. Then, you decide thats okay and will feed him and his while taking it from your own family??

I am not my brothers keeper. Idc if a 5 year old girl came to my door starving while holding a box full of puppies. During a shtf scenario, I kill her and eat the dogs and sleep just fine afterwards.

Prepping to help neighbors who dont care if you die today? Nah, I'll pass because in reality...your neighbor will covet what youve managed to prep and theyll surely kill you to keep your preps for themselves and if you think otherwise, you are wrong.
 Quoting: Iamtheone

You sir, are an evil prick. You'd kill a 5 year old?!?! WTF is wrong with you? I'd take in my neighbors' kids, but not the adults. Adults can make decisions for themselves, but that 5 year old never had an opportunity to prep.

Many adults don't have the opportunity either.

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 29620363

Yes, it's better to not prepare and then ask your neighbor for his stuff. Or better yet, take it! Because that's a better attitude...
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 28649819

You know, lots of preppers have the attitude they will "take it" from others because of their guns? LOL

So... Let's see...

The choices are...

1) Be a "prepper"

Or...

2) Be a total and completely idiotic sheep.

I'll take number one. Thanks for playing.

Thanks for showing the "awake" attitude, as if one being a prepper is not a "sheep." The fact is, most preppers didn't come up with the idea themselves, but from someone else, and down the line, there are a lot of companies out there which make a pitch to sell preppers things (food, for example) showing that it seems that it is an ad which convinces preppers to prep. Sounds like "idiotic sheep" buying because they were told to buy, with many making $$$$ as a result.
