I'll decide if I want to share anything with my neighbors after the Shtf and after I get to know them. Lets just say I don't have a clue to who my neighbors are and won't have until they decide to be more sociable. These days people really try to maintain their privacy. Most of the people I know are through business relationships. Oddly enough I know more about them than my actual neighbors.

Look at the Blackhawk Down scenario. Just a few trained, INJURED, serviceman took down 50 trained killers, each with an ak.

There are countless stories in history as well which describe the carnage one pissed off serviceman can do. Lookit every purple heart winners story or Medal of Honor recipients story...all involve winning against tremendous odds. Now, take those same people out of a foreign war zone and plop them into the crumbling of society scenario vs Jon and Jane Citizen and see hiw the kill numbers multiply.

You assume people will somehow come together and share things and sing Kumbaya or some shit. No...almost all people will be for themselves when the store shelves are empty. Hell...most are for themselves now, why would putting them in danger somehow make them change that thought.

Yes, I can defend 360 degrees easily in the middle of a field which is 3600x2000 yards with zero trees in the way. A .223 in the hands of a non trained civvy might be 300 yards, but more like 200 i feel. A shotgun is good to about 100 yards. A .308 is good to about 4-500 yds with an avid hunter shooting it.

I have markers for every hundred yards of distance marked on all sides. I have been trained for over a decade by the US Government on how to properly use a .50 cal in combat situations. Meaning that a group of say 200 people might make it within 500 yards of my spot, but noone would last beyond that.
I realize thats my own personal story and doesnt fit with everyone, but dont stand there and tell me something is impossible because unless you've been in a firefight at 2am in the middle of a desert with only 15 of your buddies against a hundred pissed off terrorists...and win without any losses, you have no leg to stand on.

I consider my-self somewhat well prepared for some kind of catastrophe, but only because I'm already accustomed to living on my own in a very cold climate.

If you think you are so well prepared for a disaster or living off the grid etc. I have an idea for you to try. Grab your bug out bag or whatever and take a hike into the north woods of Maine, and see how long you last. I give most people about 6 hours, maybe less this time of year.

The coldest temperatures I remember here, was -29F with zero wind. On a windy night the windchill factor can bring it much lower. To survive this for any reasonable period of time you generally need wool and fur. People die all the time because their clothing turns to ice after getting water-logged etc. I remember a story of a snowmobiling group that went out and one of their party died for just this reason. He didn't have a waterproof suit and even though it was cold and in the middle of winter it started raining, and his friends just couldn't keep him warm.

I enjoy winter camping from skis, and have dealt with all kinds of conditions.

For the most part you guys arn't prepared for shit, and 99% of your 'gear' will be useless.

Why are you prepping so you can save your neighbors?? While commendable, its pure folly to do so and as a prepper, you know that.

Rule number ONE of prepping is to tell nobody...especially a neighbor lol. So you waste your extra money on freeze dried food and ammo forgoing a new car or roof for your house in the process....while your non prepping neighbor spends his extra cash on a Beemer and his roof is brand new. Then, you decide thats okay and will feed him and his while taking it from your own family??

Well most of them around here get their world view shaped from talk radio and News Corp, so yeah, you are asking a bit much of this particular contingent.

Thanks for showing the "awake" attitude, as if one being a prepper is not a "sheep." The fact is, most preppers didn't come up with the idea themselves, but from someone else, and down the line, there are a lot of companies out there which make a pitch to sell preppers things (food, for example) showing that it seems that it is an ad which convinces preppers to prep. Sounds like "idiotic sheep" buying because they were told to buy, with many making $$$$ as a result.

So it's liberal not to dream about the day of a Mad Max future where it is every man for himself?
