Never joined one that I wasn't FORCED TOO !

Asked the Union rep of the Retail Food Clerks out of NYC, when I worked at Gristedes Grocery Store in Westport, CT. just what would they do for me if I was fired ?

After some careful thought, he replied " I'll be sure they had a GOOD REASON." No mention on HOW I would ever find out what it was, lol ! It's called a " Sweetheart Contract " BETWEEN the union and the business where YOU don't count; just CONTRIBUTE to the 'Daylight Bandits, without Guns' , as I called them.
