I never understood the use of public unions. I mean if they have a dispute or want to "negotiate" higher wages/better benefits then the union bosses show up to the government agency and negotiate with whom exactly? More union members on the "other side of the table"? |

Quoting: LunaticFringe As far as I know, most Unions jobs pay really well. People want them and covet them for this reason. Now, you feel "forced" to want one of these jobs and have to pay your dues. Why not work Wal-Mart then, they do not force you to pay anything, because they offer little return. Fucking commies make you pay a "union dues" each year to shop at SAM's club but you don't bitch about that. Must be a generational thing going here, all seems crystal clear to me,... Maybe it time I had a couple of cold ones. Later Z We pay higher prices on goods to facilitate union dues. Sam's club provides me with a service. Unions do not. Not a generational thing. This current generation is equally invested in getting more reciprocation for subpar performance and tenure level protections from repercussions of their actions. |

Quoting: Luisport Despite a vocal counteroffensive from President Barack Obama and other national Democrats Monday, Michigan's GOP-led state legislature is expected to pass the legislation. Republican Gov. Rick Snyder has said he will sign the bill if it reaches his desk. On the surface, Michigan may seem like a surprising battleground for the latest GOP assault on organized labor. The manufacturing-heavy state is a stronghold for several powerful public and private-sector unions, most notably the United Auto Workers. The New York Times reports tha just last month, labor leaders asked the state's voters to approve an initiative that would have codified collective bargaining in the state constitution. That measure backfired, and last week, GOP state legislators pushed through the right-to-work bill without any committee hearings or Democratic support. The conflict exposed growing tensions between Michigan's labor movement and the state's Republican lawmakers, echoing a trend that has been popping up in statehouses across the Midwest since 2010, including in Ohio, Wisconsin, and Indiana. But if the outcome of those labor fights are any indication, it is unlikely that Michigan's right-to-work fight will end at Snyder's desk today. According to reports, labor organizers are already exploring legal options to repeal the right-to-work law, and recall Republican lawmakers instrumental in passing the bill. I find it odd how people stomp down the government saying they want freedom, etc, etc. Yet, when the government gives you freedom, as in the freedom to not join a union if you don't want to and not pay the union dues if you don't want to, then they all protest and claim that the government is taking freedom away. Really, union people of Michigan? What have your powerful unions done for you? Are you such sheep that you can't see how they've destroyed your state? How they have run off all the businesses? If Michigan passes this, I see a revival of Michigans economy in the near future. Righ To Work states will be the place to be, not because you will have cheaper labor, but so that you won't have to be ROBBED by the unions. |

Front page Drudge is headlined- there will be blood. The teachers have basically been allowed not to work today because they have to protest. Quoting: Corn Dog Call me dumb but what is the issue? Why are these people all PO'ed cause people shouldn't be forced to join something in order to work. Are we in America? These people are stupid- Ever heard of a company called Hostess? They refused to bow down to the union. Is there more to this bill that is not being released? Or are these people putting politics before the good of the state? here we have very strong unions and the amount of corruption is astonishing, it goes all the way up the system. The union leaders are all POLITICAL (left wingers), and there are rorting scandals all over the place. Union credit cards (funded by the real workers who are forced to contribute), used by the guys at the top have been used for all night parties, brothels... you name it. Then there are the "slush funds", set up using union funds so that the fellows at the top can buy houses and all that sort of shit. The unions in this country are a mixture of crooks, thugs and standover merchants. The parallells with organized crime are clear to see. Interestingly alot of the "green schemes", such as wind power, solar power, desalination plants etc are HEAVILY involved with union invested funds. That is why so many left political parties have run with global warming senario and pushed through massive subsidies for alternative energy sources. (using public money to fund the subsidies). The rot goes all through the system. |

One careful study conducted by Hofstra’s Lonnie Stevans in 2007 found that right-to-work laws do help boost the number of businesses in a state — but the gains mostly went to owners, while average wages went down. ”Although right-to-work states may be more attractive to business,” Stevans concludes, “this does not necessarily translate into enhanced economic verve in the right-to-work state if there is little ‘trickle-down’ from business owners to the non-unionized workers.” [link to www.washingtonpost.com] |
