My sword arrived today! 12-12-12! Awesome weapon. Highly pleased with the quality!

I don't think the ancient tradition of Japan included getting on a fringe forum on the internet and asking complete idiots (no offense) to name your sword.

This is a personal choice.

Might I suggest finding a cool name or phrase that means something to you? Perhaps a lost, loved one or relative? Add some positive-sounding adjectives or nouns like "courage" or "faith"? Or go negative.. Choice is yours.

I guess that's the point.

Your sword.
You bought it.
You experienced your life.
You know your thoughts.
YOU should name it.

Personally? I would only ask dolts their opinion if I was merely too lazy or disinterested to do it myself where there's meaning.

Last week I purchased a Japanese Wakizashi to add to my prep gear, and perhaps quite UN-coincidentally it arrives on 12-12-12! How COOL is that?!

Anyway, I'm asking for some help in naming this incredible blade, as was the tradition in ancient Japan. I'd like to perhaps keep it aligned with one of my animal totems, (Mountain Lion or Hawk/falcon), but I'm also open to other suggestions.

With a little Googling these were some historical names:

bushikatagi- samurai spirit
akaiittou- red blade
inazuma- lightning strike
ikazuchi- thunder
kin no tora- golden tiger
kurou no tatsu- dark dragon
yorukaze- nightwind
yoarashi- night storm
hiryuu- flying dragon
amagumo- raincloud
kumorigachi- broken cloud
makaze - evil wind
takame-hawk eye
shingi to giri- loyalty and honor
*to link two objects together, i.e. you want to name your name to link the two with "to" which means "and" in japanese. So tiger and dragon would be "tora to tatsu"

By the way, yes, I'm an old martial artist, and I studied Iaido along the the path (although long ago). [link to en.wikipedia.org] Buying the sword is just the incentive I needed to get back into the flow of it, and I'll be joining a local Aikido school in January.

Anyway, from your list, I would suggest "shingi to giri- loyalty and honor"
