And even after this happened, NY decided to split the city into 3 parts: Staten Island, Red Hook and Gowanus, and Lower Manhattan, for how they plan to try and prevent something like this from happening in the future.

Would you be surprised to learn that the public staircase leading up to the crown is shaped just like a human DNA helix? I was. Even more astonishing was the fact it was laid out in nine levels, just like a Mayan ceremonial pyramid. You have to lean out to keep your balance as you ascend and many tourists have commented that it seemed like a ‘never-ending’ climb, rather like the sensation of climbing one of those huge stepped pyramids.

With one side of the spiral full of people going up and the other spiral full of people coming down, this design creates a perfect ‘whirlpool’ of energy on a busy day.

My first thought too. Yes close it down forever since this generous gorgeous gift from France serves as a painful reminder of how far this country has strayed from ideals what it onced stood for.

Unfortunately France has gifted the United States a curse in the form of an icon.

That is because when some event eventually destroys it, which is a near certainty sooner or later, then it may have a powerful negative psychological effect on the people.

She's magnificiant! I'm from the area, have walked up into her crown and and have seen her hundreds of times, but I still take photos of Ms. Liberty many times over. A beauty!

If you're not on a private boat, or on one of the sighteseeing boats that take you around Manhattan, you can take the free Staten Island Ferry to Staten Island and back and get great photos of her.

Kind of off topic but I had to share. I worked for a metal cutting company and they took over the building for the metal working place that did all the renovations on the Statue of Liberty.

I found the mold of her nose and wanted to take it home LOL..my boss at first said okay but then he called Ellis Island and they sent someone to come and get it. I thought it would be a pretty cool knick knack LOL
