Children tormented Chinese peddlers on the street, tipping their carts and destroying what they had to sell, while politicians and newspaper editors condemned the Chinese in speeches and writings. Sometimes public swimming pools were off-limits to Chinese people. As well, Chinese people were only allowed to sit in special sections of some movie theatres. Canadians need to speak up on this one and nip it in the bud. There were Canadians who applied ... They also came with previous mining experience... In the end, they were not hired. CBC Radio had an interview with both a Chinese worker who near the end of his gratitude also stated he would be sending home the monies earned here to his parents AND a Canadian drill operator who said his experience did not matter to the employer who in the end, did not hire him. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 27211004 Read more: [link to www.vancouversun.com] Thanks for the link ... Possible that the earlier CBC Radio version was wrong. Perhaps the $32 was meant to be related to the "near by" mine which holds unionized workers. In any case, I am not interested in the small details just yet, the fact they are 'importing' labour while unemployment still exists is where I feel our policy makers are not representing the average Canadian population. |

B.C. mining company required workers speak Mandarin: court docs A mining company under scrutiny over its plan to bring 201 Chinese miners to a proposed project in northern British Columbia listed Mandarin as a language requirement when it applied for temporary foreign worker permits, newly released documents reveal. The Federal Court released a package of documents Friday linked to HD Mining's proposed Murray River underground coal mine, which has been overshadowed by controversy over the use of temporary foreign workers. Among those documents is one of HD Mining's applications, listing Chinese as a language requirement, to Human Resources and Skills Development Canada for a labour market opinion - an assessment conducted by the federal department that assesses the need to hire foreign workers instead of Canadians. Several unions have accused the company of failing to attempt to hire or train Canadians before resorting to foreign workers, pointing to several job ads that specifically referred to Mandarin. [link to www.timescolonist.com] conflicting figures Now it has been revealed that the offers of employment at the Murray River project include the requirement that applicants speak Mandarin. HD Mining is seeking mining engineers, industrial electricians and underground mine workers. Advertised pay rates for these positions range from $25 to $40 an hour. Once the chinese workers get here the chinese government will start taking all the workers' money. The chinese company will also ignore environmental and safety standards, NO doubt of that. And where does it all stop? Whats to stop china from buying thousands of canadian companies and bringing millions of chinese here? Really now, what are 50 million people to china?. Eventually canadians will be starving and freezing in their formally own country. |
