I actually did something like this in Oskaloosa, Iowa during a six month stay there back in 1971. I climbed an impossibly high (to me) silo and was completely eclosed in a steel ladder all the way to the top and it was STILL one of the scariest things I have ever done. Iowa is incredibly flat and I could see "forever".

No way, no how would I ever do open climbing like that. Like the OP said, it is scary just watching this. Thanks for posting. It brought the experience back to me. I'm glad I did it. I would never do it again.
