It is wonderful to help others who GENUINELY need help.

But good people must FIRST help themselves . . . one's duty and obligation is to take care of self, pets, family, before others.

Those of us who have more than enough should be helping those who have less than enough. While none of us can save "the" world, everyone of can make a dent in the suffering in "our" world.

Of course my friend,first read the truth,one you liked what you felt reading it,start doing it. Of course,I am doing my best,I have read and read for a last year,now it's time to finnaly start doing,i smoked 20 cigarets a day week ago,now it's three per day,because i stpped talking to myself that I have to stop smoking and focused my energy on doing it,stoping. I got rid of many bad things,and still lot more to do,but I am looking forward to it,because I know all will be fine as long as I continue to do good to others which includes family,friends,and people I meet along the way. And like you said,doing good to yourself,but real good. Thank you for sharing that.

It works both ways. Help others to help yourself. Help yourself to help others. You can help others if you don't take care of yourself.

Thought of it before posting. Thanks for reminder,it also is truth,but I see many people including myself sometimes doing only things for myself, it didn't work. Thank you.

My name comes from a prayer a friend wrote, which ends: "May we be both life and love for others. May we give both life and love, as You have given to us."

I was encourage those who focus on helping themselves first and foremost to try it the other way for a week or two. Consider it a science experiment.

I don't think people understand very well how your relationship to God works. I finally figured it out and have been blessed ever since. I mean blessed financially as well as blessed in other ways.

God knows what you need and so there is no use praying to him to give you this or that or to fix this problem or that problem. When you pray, pray for God to help others, not yourself. By praying for others then you will be blessed also.

One thing I think people do not understand is how important marriage is to God. You give an oath to God to be with this person "for better or worse". Well if you get the worse from that person then it is no excuse to get divorced. It says in the bible: John 1:1 "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God". Just think what that means. If God is nothing more than his "word" and man was made in God's image then man is no more or less than his word. If you give your word in an oath, especially to God, then you better keep your word. If your word is no good then you are no good and so don't expect anything from god if you are no good.

You will be tested but your faith has to be strong. If you keep your word and stay married like I did it will seem like you are about to be ruined but believe me when things look about as bad as they can get and you are prepared to go down with the ship to keep your word then God will change things as if like a miracle. It happened to me. I;'m not talking out of my ass here.

You do not have to go looking for someone less fortunate than you to help. God will send them your way. Go into it to help them and not expect anything out of it. It may cost you a little but I just recently helped a complete stranger. It took a few months to get this person the help they needed.

One day after they left I was rewarded completely out of the blue. To say I got more out of it then the person I helped is an understatement. I wasn't even expecting what I got...it came by complete surprise.
