Getting a car.... need advice. | |
| Anonymous Coward User ID: 29405888 12/12/2012 01:10 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Ah, the good old 7M-GTE known for the stock headgasket which was under torqued from the factory... An aftermarket MLS (multi-layered steel) headgasket from Fel Pro and a box of new headbolts will fix that... Quoting: Anonymous Coward 29405888 Yeah for $4,000 take your pick! I saw a SWEET Toyota MR-2 Turbo with 120k miles, clean title never riced or wrecked go for $3,500! I seriously thought about getting it but someone bought it while I was working :( Yes, "my CPU is a neural-net processor, a learning computah" ![]() That KA24 is legendary... its right up there with the 22RE Toyota series. How about the 1.8 liter 7A-FE on the 93-97 Corollas? My ex girlfriend had one with over 380,000 miles! And her car had originally been a salvage title and she stick wrecked it 2 more times including a total loss incident and it just kept running and running... Just do the timing belt (with all the pulleys/tensioners) and water pump and those engines won't quit! Cheers -GooGooFlexy-, this one's for you! Its an old one but is HILARIOUS! NOTE to everyone else, this is pure comedy do not take anything said in this "interview" seriously!!! |

Fairly good cars, apparently they have mitsubishi engines. Very simple and easy to work on, parts are also cheap. Stick with the 1st gen 1995-1999, look for the DOHC engine and manual transmission. Avoid the 2nd generation.Plentiful supply of parts at junkyards too." I've got two of the 2nd generation Neons...One with 237K miles and the other 188K...still going very strong. I have learned ANY brand can be a lemon though... OP, thoroughly inspect any used car you're interested in...maybe take a trusted mechanic with you...g/l. |

| Anonymous Coward User ID: 23524705 12/12/2012 10:12 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I bought a 99 vw with a 1.8t motor for ~2500$ and over the past two years or so put another 2500$ into it, and have fixed everything. I do the work myself so that helps, but this is one of the best cars I have owned. Its fast, comfortable, gets amazing MPG, and I think its easy to work on although I'm sure people would argue about that. |

I just paid, including tax $435 to have an air bag sensor replaced on my suv. and I had a 15% off coupon. Its probably easy to swap it out but u need the expensive diagnostic equipment to tell u which sensor is bad..... Quoting: Anonymous Coward 28870983 Wow that is at most 10 minutes and you don't need the scan tool to find it. They made good $ on that "repair" |

I get about the same as you, op, and money is the problem here with a car. What's the least that it takes you to live on, so how much do you have left to buy a car. Don't forget the insurance. |

| Anonymous Coward User ID: 29674012 12/12/2012 10:30 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I just get antsy.... Quoting: Anonymous Coward 21022932 Small Florida town.... I'm doing nothing but working out, and working.... Somehow spend all my money! Payments sound good, but noone will touch me... I could handle payments. Ere Thinking of printing a flyer at retirement home, for old ppl who can't srive and asking if they'll donate or let me make payments. Figure it'd worth a shot. Agree with the guy who suggested a Buy Here Pay Here place. If you've been working for a while they can probably give you a start. Whatever you get, try to get one that's not all dented. They're almost worse than no car if you're trying to date. You don't have a huge income to work with but try to see where it's all going. Eating and drinking at home is cheaper than out. And try learning to cook, even on a grill. Saves money and can be impressive also. |

See, I started visualizing the Law of Attraction, using it - and I told my self I wanted a Dodge Ram 1500. Well, I left my old pool operator job - and got a new one at a better company - and they said "Tah dah, here are your keys to the Ram 1500 - but we have GPS so clear all personal use with Boss before you do it." I was like DOH! So close! The Universe MISUNDERSTOOD me :) So now, I'm focusing on.... good stuff. :) Thanks for all the advice - I'm looking at a Mitsubishi Gallant, 2001, tomorrow. and I'm heeding your advice about "be forewarned" Mr. Long Poster about Cars. However, for the Miles, MPG, and Price - and ICE COLD A/C - and yeah.... :) |
