My mother's neighbor of 18 years died of heroin overdose. Good luck. I'm not religious but I know god is with you. You will over come this. The mind is a fascinating thing. YouTube hypnosis videos. Sleep videos too. Basically anything can be through hypnosis. Sending healing prayers

How did you do it?
 Quoting: Philligan

don't know if you're being sarcastic aha cause 4 months isn't that much but...

I drove to my trailer its about 2 hours away from everything so It wouldn't be easy for me to relapse. bought as much fruit veggies and water as I could so I could detox faster.

the pain was pretty agonizing escpecially my legs and I didn't sleep for a week and kept throwing up blood.

there was one highlight to my detox. I have never pooped so damn much in my life aha. When you're high you can't poop and I was always high during my 4 years. so I was literally full of it.

I can sort of relate to you.....Going through hydro WDs at the moment. Tapered down for about 4 days, and now have made it 2 days completely sober and feel like shit. Been using basically the entire past 2.5 years. Been through this vicious cycle so many times I've lost count but am sick of it controlling my life, I know what I am feeling is the pits....constant extreme hot/cold flashes, restlessness/anxiety, sleep is Hell, runny nose, watery eyes, fever, nausea, joint and muscle pain, and the worst is the depression and total lack of desire to do anything except think about that stupid pill....

What's sort of helped for me:
Phenergan
Valerian root in the evening
Multi vitamin
Kava in the morning
Lots of water
Alternating Tylenol and ibuprofen

I'm rooting for you and hope you and I both can stay clean.

this is the worst idea I have ever heard of...

just intellectualize your way through it: ok, I want something and how does it feel... you will get bored of this thought...

look at other people--how they live without it...

read about Miles Davis and others who have done it....

Drink your Urine--I am serious, this can cure allergies and I bet it can cure addiction or at least make it go away faster...

google Urine Therapy... this will also help w moods and health...

pray the Lord's prayer--this is the best idea...

Be blessed, dude-it could be worse and it will get better...

Here is a nice little history of the drug, if anyone needs reading material while detoxing...

[link to www.amazon.com]

Review:
Ah, heroin! The scourge of American civilization! The enslaver and despoiler of all that is good and pure! And heroin's ambassador, the drug addict: a craven, diseased, desperate minion of Morpheus who wallows in a cesspool of decadence and habitual debasement! Yes, fearsomely addictive heroin and the deranged dope fiends who inject it have somehow been merged in the American public's mind to form a two-pronged skewer that diabolically rips away at society's most vital organs, leaving a trail of despair and death in its obscene wake.
At least, that's the way it's portrayed today. But, as author Th. Metzger posits in The Birth of Heroin and the Demonization of the Dope Fiend, it wasn't always so. Like everything else, heroin has a history, and so does the societal archetype of the heroin addict.

Metzger traces heroin back to its inceptual roots as opium, and explains the uses to which the latex of papaver somniferum has been put throughout Western history. He explains the evolution of opium into morphine, and that drug's medical applications and inclusion in many patent medicines at the turn of the century. Metzger also provides an account of the discovery of heroin by British chemist C.R.A. Wright in 1874, and the subsequent shepherding of this astounding substance into worldwide usage, a process initially overseen by Carl Duisberg of Germany's Bayer Company, and later by the I.G. Farben chemical cartel.

At first, heroin was widely used and hailed as a "triumph over pain." But as the American cult of purity began to emerge, heroin was rapidly demonized. Through unprincipled and sensationalized media exhortations, it was tied to alien immigration from Asia, or "the Yellow Peril," which was perceived by isolationists (such as newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst) as a threat to social order, and the stereotype of the diabolical Oriental drug fiend was soon fabricated and installed firmly within the American collective psyche.

In time, heroin came to be associated with defilement, sin and disease, and the hypodermic needle became a potent symbol of moral and physical transgressions. The American temperance crusade and the eugenics movement were other contributing factors in the process of heroin's fall from grace and the dope fiend's ultimate scapegoating as the lowest of the low. Seminal American antidrug czar Harry J. Anslinger furthered this cultural pogrom, adding to it an antipathy towards African and Hispanic Americans, and disingenuously linking those ethnic groups with heroin usage. Metzger also traces the activities of many other influential individuals who contributed to the public's skewed perception of the drug and its devotees over the years.

Today, heroin and its users have become synonymous with devolution and degeneracy. How this came to be makes for a fascinating tale, and Th. Metzger tells it well in The Birth of Heroin and the Demonization of the Dope Fiend.

And don't turn to booze when this is over...

[link to www.economist.com]

MOST people would agree that some drugs are worse than others: heroin is probably considered to be more dangerous than marijuana, for instance. Because governments formulate criminal and social policies based upon classifications of harm, a new study published by the Lancet on November 1st makes interesting reading. Researchers led by Professor David Nutt, a former chief drugs adviser to the British government, asked drug-harm experts to rank 20 drugs (legal and illegal) on 16 measures of harm to the user and to wider society, such as damage to health, drug dependency, economic costs and crime. Alcohol is the most harmful drug in Britain, scoring 72 out of a possible 100, far more damaging than heroin (55) or crack cocaine (54). It is the most harmful to others by a wide margin, and is ranked fourth behind heroin, crack, and methamphetamine (crystal meth) for harm to the individual. The authors point out that the model's weightings, though based on judgment, were analysed and found to be stable as large changes would be needed to change the overall ranking

I got myself a good little drinking problem a few years back, always giving up for ten days at a time, starting again, then I kicked for ten months, and now I can enjoy one of two without getting out of hand. It was all about triggers to me, vicious ex withholding the kids etc. Now when she's a see you next tuesday I put myself on watch and know that booze is just extending the bad feeling into guilt. A sincere congratulation to you.

Sadly its not the same for me. I was a heroin addict for 4 years, An acid and benzo addict for 2 years, a ketamine addict for 3 years, and a meth/painkiller addict for 6 years.

One thing i've realized is i replace one addiction with another and rinse and repeat. Im addicted to addiction. The good news is Alcohol is literally the last drug for me to be addicted to.

One thing thats stopping me is the withdrawal. I drink about 18-23 beers every night and the withdrawal is insane.

I was able to quit cold turkey on heroin and other opiates but alcohol is just plan fucked.

Get some powdered vitamin C and some vitamin E pills. It reduces the withdrawal symptom suffering.

I drink 18-23 beers of Alexandre Keith 5.2% which is pale ale.Ive had stout before but can't say im a fan. Im not looking for higher alcohol % because that screws me over. I was drinking a 26 of whiskey everyday cause it was alot easier to hide and i decided to switch to something a little more social where i could get by.

Have you looked into CBD at all (to help with the drinking)? Its a non psychoactive cannabanoid

A new study in mice has found that activating a receptor affected by marijuana can dramatically reduce cocaine consumption. The research suggests that new anti-addiction drugs might be developed using synthetic versions of cannabidiol (CBD), the marijuana component that activates the receptor—or even by using the purified natural compound itselfRead more: [link to healthland.time.com]

If you have it, put a cup of baking soda and/or epsom salt in the bathtub and soak for 20 minutes in the hottest water you can stand. This will help detox and relax you.

Take some baking soda to alkalize you as well. 1/2 teaspoon in water morning and evening. You can take this a few times a day until you feel better and then back off to twice a day or even once a day.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1550123

But beware..Epsom salt baths will have a laxative effect. And if you're already having issues with that you especially NEED to be drinking electrolyte solutions. Coconut water like someone else recommended is ideal but Pedialyte or other real electrolyte drinks will work.

There's also those Emergen-C powdered drink packets that have vitamins, minerals and electrolytes in them which would be ideal for you right now.

Re: getting clean off heroin....any suggestions or just friendly chat? cant sleep!!!
I've been following this thread for a few days, I just wanted to make a comment at how amazing and supportive some of the people of GLP can be...it warms my heart to see others trying to support someone they have never met, sometimes this kind of support is what helps people get through the day.

If they have family who is too nosey or judgemental it gets overwhelming and the relapse could be right around the corner as the stress levels increase for the individual.

OP I am keeping you in my heart. I hope the worst of it is over for you, just know there are always people here (from EVERY walk of life) who have may have experienced something similar. Its always nice to have people to chat with who you can relate to and I just want to say some of the people on this thread have really opened up and shared a part of their life with you as you have with them. I have a very addictive personality when it comes to substances and I have tried to stay away from some of the harder ones, I can't imagine how hard it could be to come off of some of them...I am keeping you in my heart as you overcome this!

So this is like your 21st time to try and stop correct? Yet on the first day your on GLP asking for help... Truly amazing and not in a good way.

I read the whole thread, I missed where he said he tries 21 times. He said that its been 3 months using I thought. Why bother posting if you don't want to encourage him? It just makes you look mean spirited.

Because I've known 100's of people and his reasoning behind it isn't even that justified. IT's only to get a job. What's to stop him from doing it again after he passes his drug test?

I'm just being realistic. HE may not even know it himself but the addicted part of him probably wants him to get this job to have money to pay for more drugs. His only motivation is passing the drug test.

Plus who comes to GLP of all places to seek help for a stupid addiction you shouldn't have gotten into in the first place?

I love drugs but I hardly use them in the first place but when I do it's not with stupid ass concoctions that screw up your mind and body.

I have no sympathy for heroin or meth users.

I have no problem with drug users but people who willingly take a substance that has been proven over and over again to kill you is an idiot.

I say the same thing about Cig smokers. IT's just stupid.

Maybe I haven't been fully clear here.... My main motive is to be a better man. To care for my family and love them without a drug. To be a healthy person. to be a REAL MAN. and yes, to get a GREAT career started to I can begin to start a family with my wonderful wife and live out my final years in peace raising children and helping my family and loved ones in the most positive ways I possibly can. Not only do I believe I can do this, I KNOW that I AM going to do this. I have a very powerful mind- it has stood out to many people in my life- so I know I will achieve this.... I was simply looking for ideas and friendly chatting in this thread.....
