Okay let me give you a better example. If the Muslim religion was thought in your sons school and shown as a good normal thing in Movies, music, and everywhere else and he turned out to be a Muslim extremist who believed suicide bombing was ok how would you feel.
Its easy to defend what your okay with but everyone has something they're against.

No it's really not, one is a destructive way of thinking, the other is only destructive to those that perceive it as such. You are the biased one here whether you realize it or not, in using an extreme argument to support your side.
To a degree yes you do, it doesn't mean there still isn't consequences though to actions or that there should not be, you still need that, just WHAT we are to be punished for or not punished for would change.
And here we come to the problem, "christian nation", THAT is why we have these issues to begin with, because we base morality and what is acceptable and what isn't even if it's not harming another soul to do it, on a certain set of ideologies and beliefs. Really, we are not that different at all from a Muslim nation, it's just the way of thinking is different. The idea though is the same, the religion sets the tone for behavior, and that should not be.
You want to talk about trying to please everyone? Well when you have an entire nation that is trying to judge based upon ONE belief system above all others, you end up making no one happy in the end. No one system of thinking should be able to circumvent one's own personal right to live how they wish to provided they are not harming someone else in so doing.
We must learn to coexist with each other, and live and let live. Until we can do that, we all will lose out in terms of rights and personal liberties no matter what side of the fence we stand on.
