Why Are Doomsday Preppers Hated So Much?

I always try and do the math. Of course in this situation I would say that 50% of the humans are just lazy with another 25% Just being plain stupid then the last 25% is made up of preppers. Yeah that is why I believe that many hate preppers they know they are just lazy. Or they think they know it all and are actually stupid.

We already know if a disaster happens big government isn't going to help look at Katrina and Sandy, as well as the Quake in Japan. The governments help no one. So why not prepare yourself and be ready for whatever happens, however that 25% still trusts the government 100% and the lazy ones couldn't care less either way.

One of Ronald Reagan's best lines was something like "The words you never want to hear are "I'm from the government and I'm here to help you."

People who hope & pray for doomsday are giving excusing for not improving themselves. They just focus on how they can thrive in a new post-world because ultimatley they failed in the current society.

They love to give excuses for why they suck at life and blame government, corporations, etc. To give meaning to their failed life, they project themselves as a "winner" in a fantasy world that, in all likelyhood, has about 0.00001% chance of occuring.

While yes, if that 0.00001% chance event occurs, they will be in much better shape than the rest of us, in reality it is silly and desparate thought.

The country is headed for a gigantic iceberg and will sink like the Titanic. When food is scarce, money unavailable, locked up in banks, normal people will do extraordinary things to save their families like go across the street armed with guns and take the food away from their friends. The US government does not want anyone else besides themselves to have guns which is Barry Obama's reason for his anti gun policies. The preppers will have guns and know how to use them if the government comes to take them to a FEMA camp, for "their own protection."

That's like saying having a spare tire in your car is just an excuse not to improve yourself. It makes zero sense.

Preparing for bad times does not equate to "hoping and praying for doomsday".

Anyone who hasn't at least taken the minimum steps to provide for themselves and families can only be classified as an idiot.

There is no guarantee of electricity tomorrow, no guarantee that the trucks will endlessly be capable of re-stocking shelves, no guarantee of gasoline at the pumps.

These are facts of life.

It's very much improving ones self to prepare. It's common sense, which most apparently do not have.

I think there's a huge difference between someone who is prepared for the worst, and someone who is eagerly anticipating the worst. I also think there's a huge difference between the person who believes the doomsday will result from economic collapse or war and the person who believe the doomsday will result mythical prophecies of giant invisible planets crashing into Earth.

In both cases, the latter paints the former in a bad light.

I would imagine fairly soon after tshtf there will be a lot of people that will be glad to see any agency show up to 'help' them and will follow willingly.

There will will also be a small percentage of people that are not prepared, but think they can fend for themselves, or just don't trust the government and will avoid government, but also will be cautious of other people. Maybe they will try to make it to the wilderness thinking they can survive on their own, or with their family group.

Then you will have the people that won't go willingly only because they are thinking of all the looting etc. they can do. They will want to roam the streets in search of 'stuff' and money. At least until they realize that stuff is virtually worthless. Then that group will split. Most will then willingly accept the governments offer of assistance. The rest will continue on in gangs, and try to take what they want from those left.

Finally you have the preppers. They willingly accept the governments offers of help. They also will be ready to defend what is theirs in most cases. Since many are smaller family groups they may or may not do well against larger gangs.

But that is a numbers game. I mean there won't be large gangs left after a while, as their odds of finding actual preppers lessens. More likely the gangs will hang out in neighborhoods where the people were rounded up already. They will have shelter, perhaps some food and water, and most will be rounded up soon after.

That was suppose to read that the preppers will not willingly accept the governments offers of help.

When the media shows preppers they usually show a couple white trash families... That turns people off from preppers. The gov't doesn't like people not depending on them, so the MSM makes them look like "terrorists" so people will hate them.

It's all about control. All governments expand their control over their citizens. Its what they do. There are many FEMA camps built over the past decade that have never been used, but they are staffed by government employees. I've seen videos of thousands of cheap coffins stacked up in those camps. Supposedly they were built to house displaced people suffering from a disaster like floods or earthquakes. This, if true, would label them "noble institutions" for the benefit of mankind. When one of the managers of one of these camps was asked the question, "How come the barbed wire running across the tops of the fence surrounding these camps FACES INWARD, he had no answer.

Those types of individuals should be rounded up and stuck into a mental hospital before anything ever happens so any innocent children do not fall victim to a psychopath.

It's because some preppers give the good ones a bad name.

There are some really bat shit crazy prepper's and they seem to love getting media attention. Those tards make all preppers look like half wit rednecks in need of some jail time.

I feel so bloody stupid now.
I've been stocking up on peppers and have 3 ton of them.
Damn it, "preppers" I must remember, it's preppers.

Propaganda. Why? Because they represent awakened minds who are preparing, and thereby, warning against the truth of what is about to happen. If tyranny wishes to prevail, they do NOT wish for those they wish to control, to be awake to their plans.

I don't even talk to friends or family about prepping or my reasons behind it anymore. Because, I'm looked upon as being pessimistic. There's a big difference between being a pessimist and a realist, but they don't seem to understand that. I'm not a "doomsday" prepper, nor do I "expect" something to happen. I'm just a common sense prepper. People see natural disasters happening everywhere, they somehow think it could never happen to them. I don't understand their thinking process. Realistically, it can happen and "if" it does, I have insurance for that situation. To me, it's not any different than having home owners/car insurance. Your house may never catch fire, you may never get in a car accident, but if you do...

Most of them seem to be on the adrenalin drive that should be reserved for when the event actually arrives. Then there is the little laugh ..... Somebody might remember your name if you are the first to die in the 'event', nobody will be there to record the last to silently pass into death.

If I live 10K past the blast radius of Yellowstone should I drop everything and run away of grab some beer and head towards it to see what the 'show' is all about?

That movie is a joke. Farming would still be capable in that situation, even if it were just potatoes.

Many preppers are prepping for the wrong thing. Total collapse is very unlikely. Economic and natural disasters on the other hand happen frequently. In California prepping for an earthquake makes much more sense than prepping for a mythological planets visit.

Your fancy bunker that is mortgaged to the hilt is less secure than a piece of land you own free and clear.

They can keep their fingers and attitudes to theirselves.

There are different levels of prepping. You can add locks to your house, buy a few hundred dollars worth of food and water and buy a shotgun in case the locks don't hold. Go to a coin dealer and get a bag of silver quarters.You are then a prepper.

I saw a TV show recently where a millionaire built a second house for a million bucks. Built it like a fort with major systems for producing fresh water, underground safe rooms, etc. Heavy weaponry, including explosives.He's a prepper too.

I'm more inclined towards the first level of preparedness. If you care, (which you shouldn't) no one can call you a nut because there are no outward signs that you are a prepper, with food, water, gasoline, etc., stored inside.

Meh, if you just want to make sure you can survive for a few months without help in an area where that could happen then there is nothing wrong with that. But those people who buy 500K underground bunkers and just seem to live in edge are just overdoing it. Seems more like compulsive paranoia. I don't prep cause shit never hits the fan here. Got no tornadoes, draughts, EQ, war or isolated areas. And I rather live without fear and take the chance that if a meteorite hits or some zombie virus gets released I'll be fucked. Rather then living my life on edge thinking the shit can hit the fan any moment and nothings happens.

And btw, not everybody has the oppertunity to die in some massive calamity. I would be pretty honoured if I was part of the first ones killed by a meteorite that wipes out 90% of the earths population. How many people die like that? Better then dying old and miserable in some old folks home. You'll see the burning meteorite, feel the heat and terror and then its over. And those hardcore preppers are freaks anyway, if you survive you'll be stuck with them.

I love your philosophy, Phill. I can understand your thinking, having visited the Netherlands several times. Your government is one to be admired, pretty much leaving its people alone to live their lives. But that has its bad side, too, allowing the Muslim population to acquire an unhealthy amount of power which they are turning against the Dutch society and way of life. I guess it all must be on a case by case basis.
