Why isn't the United States involved with this? We stick are noses in everything else globally.
I can't understand how middle east oil is more important than the contamination of the entire Earth...

Fukushima isn't just located by the sea. It sits on the edge of a 20,000 foot cliff to the bottom of one of the biggest geologically active faults in the world. At some point, the whole thing is going into the ocean.

Geologically that is pretty darn close to an ocean that has already flooded the facility and quakes that have already caused intruding sea water to bubble up from the ground in places along the coast.

A remote-controlled robot is now scouring the basement of the reactor building that houses the pressure suppression chamber to pinpoint the cause of the leak.

Tokyo Electric Power Co. said it was unable to identify the source of the leak when the robot inspected one of the eight vent pipes that connect the chamber with the containment vessel on Dec. 11.

If they buried it like at Chernobyl, there would be no need to cool it with water.
 Quoting: Silvershallows 462458

Don't talk stupid, have you any comprehension of what happened at CNPP, and the miraculous chain of events that in fact made it possible that the reactor and it's molten core could be managed using a sarcophogus strategy?

There is no way whatsoever that this strategy could be used at Fukushima, the situation there is far more serious.

The 'expendable' workers of the Soviet Union Red Army, and their incredible courage and sacrifice in the first Months following the catastrophe gave the Soviets a tiny window of opportunity at CNPP to actually be able to gain some modicum of control.
There is absolutely NO POSSIBLE way to control fissile material at Fukushima, any opportunity to get under the RPV's in order to control this came & went over a year ago when the pathetic Japanese Govt twiddled their thumbs and waited for some 'never coming' technological messiah to deal with the catastrophe.

EVERYONE who needs to grasp the real threat and dire situation that faces the World from the catastrophic fiasco at Fukushima, should watch this video from CNPP.

Off topic but... if there ever is a pole shift obviously there will be massive amounts of death because of the event itself but with all of the nuclear power plants all over the planet, wouldn't it be safe to assume that any survivers of the pole shift would just die from radiation exposure? Surely a pole shift would be the death of us all. There is no survival for annyone if ever a pole shift happens. What say you?

There's nothing wrong with the house. Humans have been poor tenants. What is more, they are ruining the earth not only literally by means of pollution, deforestation, and exploitation but also morally and spiritually through violence, bloodshed, and sexual immorality.

Earth was created for a purpose:
For this is what Jehovah has said, the Creator of the heavens, He the [true] God, the Former of the earth and the Maker of it, He the One who firmly established it, who did not create it simply for nothing, who formed it even to be inhabited: I am Jehovah, and there is no one else. (Isa 45:18)

So, do you really think we (humans) can interfere with that purpose?

Without getting into a whole religious thang...
I meant... 'Who would want to survive in this earthly form.?'

I don't buy into the 'vengeful God' theme.
I think we do this to ourselves.
The depths of depravity that mankind has achieved speaks for itself.

We are talking about blatant industrial and corporate greed, with total disregard concerning the welfare and health of the planet, or of its denizens.

Yes. The last person I mentioned Fukushima to said "Oh they fixed that. If there was a problem, they'd tell us."

People don't give a shit. Entertainment/novelty value has gone.

I bet that if you'd ask 10 random people where or what fukushima is, half wouldn't have a clue anymore.

We'll only see the full effects 5 years from now. By then, they'll have a nice scenario to erase Fukushima from the collective minds of the sheeple.

The japanese weren't exactly thrilled to entertain the idea of nuclear reactors..... after the second world war and all that...
Hiroshima and Nagasaki were grim reminders.

There was a massive marketing campaign, first.
GE Mark I BW reactors were used at Fuku.

This design was flawed enough from the outset that GE's own scientists resigned in protest.
The Fuku installation was beefed-up over spec by the japanese to attempt to avoid known problems from vessel over-pressure.

Guess what happened, anyway..?

That is why the vessels are leaking.
Over-pressure.

We have the same reactors in operation here in the US.

@ Novamum,
yeah, a first impression is not always
the Reality, maybe i am the most
concerned Person of the whole Glp
because this is a real danger for Japan
and the rest of the whole World!

But the danger by this Water is not that
big, the Water for the cooling is running
in a cycle, cooling and than filtering and
a reverse Osmosis, for the Filter there
is not a huge difference where the Water
is coming from!

The only important thing is; why are there
this Holes?
Coming from the Pressure?
Coming from the Saltwater?
and
coming from the molten Core (!!!)?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 29256427

I think this whole situation is mind blowing and how it has been allowed to go this far turns my stomach. I do not know why it's leaking, but I know that it needs to be fixed, like last year. At this point, people can bicker back and forth, but the truth of the matter is that it's not going to help. I only wish people would use that much energy into finding a solution. I do not exactly blame Japan, like others do, it's the handful of corrupt money grabbers who knew there was a high possibility of this happening.

To add insult to injury.. NRC has extended the licenses of many of those same reactors..

I'm not an expert, by any definition... but I have researched and I read a lot.
I don't see many restrictions on the ability of the nuclear industry to continue to act with impunity..
Renewing the licenses of out-dated and flawed reactors is a case in point..

Amazing that it's taken 21 months for old information to come to light.

One might wonder WHY TPTB are releasing this as new info now. Is something going on there since the recent EQs? Are they thinking of making the EQ scapegoats for the orginal breech??????

methinks something about this is fishy...
