Where's all the work, Mr. President??? (need prayers)
Okay, the economy crashed in 2008. Why hasn't the economy improved any since then? I don't get this, they say there has been improvement, and even improvement in new home construction like 4%. WHERE???? Not in my county! (southern PA)

In more than 25 years of a successful construction business, for the first time we have absolutely NO work. Husband had to sell off machinery, so we can pay next month's mortgage. Of course, when you have your OWN small business, you do not get help from the gov. You cannot even get unemployment!

We would have had one remodel repair insurance job, but the home owners changed their mind and pocketed the money from the insurance company. You would think after our last big commercial project in 2011 which turned out gorgeous we would be getting loads of work. Not! Google the Lodges at Gettysburg and you can see the beautiful cabins and ballroom that we designed and built. But that has generated no future projects. Just 6 years ago we were so busy we were turning down work!!!

I don't know what is going to happen come February if we can't find work. We have mortgage to pay and food to put on the table. What do we do????

Design and build is dead. I feel ya OP our project back log is very small, I have been in the mechanical contracting business for 17 years and I have never seen it so slow.

Thankfully the company I work for has deep front pockets

have you tried being a sub under a bigger company?

Well not yet.

Thanks for the advice.

AS to building, you see things like hospital expansions, shopping centers being built and around large cities you see some subdivisions popping up.

Yet rurally, pretty much nothing except for maybe some renovations and some additions, but then you have 100 builders competing for like 10 jobs.

I felt kind of bad for this but I was hoping for more damage from hurricane sandy to get insurance jobs, but there was little in that category in our area.

rant Sorry Great Americans but this is part of the Bush/Obama plan; that was started when Bush took office in 2000. We have been in a great economic slide since 9/11 anyway. But it took 7 years to manifest, which was in 2008. Many, many people like you have had it hard. And the new world order Satanist illuminuti bankers want to crash Americas economy and the European economy so that they can finally have their long awaited One World Satanic Government; or their Brave New World, or whatever you want to call it.

And eventually, they will crash all the economies of the world and have what they have sought. And Satan will rule the whole world, and they will try to force everybody to take their mark of the beast chip in their forehead or right hands; according to the Bible's, Revelation 13 and 14 chapters. That way, they can make everybody their beast chipped zombie brainless slaves; where they can control them and their thoughts.

However, I digress, and we will be praying very hard for your welfare and that God provides for you. It is very important that you get to know Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour, so that these tribulations don't overcome you and cause you to give up hope and drive you into a very bad anxiety and dispair and depression and hopelessness. Only God can keep you mentally and emotionally stable in these evil times!!

Plus, hubby's aunt is living in our basement right now because she is on hard times. We all would be screwed if we lost our house right now.

Yes, huge subdivisions in certain areas certainly were put on hold.

There was one huge one that some big huge company called Wormald (from frederick MD) was going to put one in between Emmitsburg MD and Fairfield PA. It was going to contain 1500 homes. Liberty township made them shrink it to 700 homes, which is still too much for that area. It also would over congest those rural roads to rt 15. People in that area were fighting it legally and now are so thankful that thing isn't going to be started anytime in the near future. And there is another huge thing called Mason Dixon Country Club which has like a golf course, hotel and 700+ homes planned near Gettysburg in an area where there is not enough ground water or water in the nearby creeks. That was also put on hold (again locals happy for that).

AS to those monster subdivisions, I do wish they would keep those next to large cities where they belong.

BTW I have an aunt and uncle that live near Dillsburg, pa.

Are you near Gettysburg? If so, hello neighbor! I'm in northern Adams county. So sorry to hear about your luck though, are you looking for work now? Have you tried placing even local classified ads or on Craigslist?
 Quoting: Laura Bow

Hi neighbor!! Yes, in Adams County where home building and other building pretty much died.

Looks like we will be putting ads in craigslist that is for sure. Thanks for the idea and reminder. We do need to get up a website as I am working on one on weebly.

I wish I could advertise on radio however we don't have the extra $$ it takes to do so.

Ugh!

This is unfortunate, but yes you are right. There was the big boom where all the housing developments were supposed to pop up right near me BUT I guess that ended up collapsing. We bought our house right before things soured too. Yes, definitely get up a website as that's how some people will find you! Hey, even the local grocery stores allow you to post ads on their bulletin boards. Perhaps you may even want to try bartering work for...??
 Quoting: Laura Bow

 Quoting: Pa resident1

I can't say I heard about that subdivision, but I know there were supposed to be at least two that we were notified about in hmmm, 2007? I'm near Biglerville. Obviously, I guess all of that stuff fell through. Also, did you know about the comprehensive plans passed in Adams county which will make it harder for them to create subdivisions now? One of the provisions in it (it's Agenda 21 stuff) mentions that I believe they need to have some type of a park area (so many sq ft per size of house I think it is) allotted for recreation, among other things.

Interesting! No it would not really hurt us, as we always built single family homes here and there, not mega farm hogging subdivisions with a thousand houses. I tell you what, I do not want to see my area end up looking like what happened to Frederick, MD.

We always have built homes in Carroll Valley, and miscellaneous lots here and there in Adams, and some in Franklin and York counties. Unfortunately, this type of work has dried up since 2008.

BTW I will google Northwest Adams County Joint comprehensive plan. I've never heard of it, be interesting to read more about it. Thanks for the info.

Sorry Great Americans but this is part of the Bush/Obama plan; that was started when Bush took office in 2000.

And Satan will rule the whole world, and they will try to forever everybody to take their mark of the beast chip in their forehead or right hands; according to the Bibles, Revelation 13 and 14 chapters.

I think any new subdivisions that are going to be built would be impacted, as how I understand it. Here's part of it, from the link:

• Include language in subdivision and land development ordinances to require developers to dedicate land for recreation or pay a fee in lieu of land for all new subdivisions. Adopt recreation plans to permit the charging of fees.
• Each subdivision or land development should be reviewed to determine whether the dedication of land or the fee in lieu of land would be more appropriate, based upon the size and location of the development and open space and recreation planning.
• Include standards in subdivision and land development ordinances for the design and construction of recreation facilities. Review standards of National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) and Adams County Vision for Parks, Recreation, and Open Space for appropriateness.

Thanks for sharing that.

10+ years ago husband and an invester bought out about 150 acres of land outside of Gettysburg. They divided off about ten 8 acre (around that) lots, and left the rest as open space. Originally we left more space open than what the township said in the ordinance. We sold the remaining acreage so we do not know what will happen with the remaining open land.
