| novamom (OP) User ID: 21938356 12/12/2012 04:44 PM ![]() Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | There are people who do not understand the concept of the actual need for security measures because they have never experienced a situation like others have. There are also schools tthat go way overboard and call the police on grade school. Yes I know that in some cases it is valid, however, my childrens elementary school has the police there every other week. I live in a well off neighborhood and the people in my community are wonderful; I seriously couldn't ask to live in a better neighborhood. If a normally well behaved child lashes out, I would be more worried about finding out why, not filing assault charges. |

I went to school in western PA, not to far from Butler and the authority grabbing was getting really bad when I was in high school.. The school security guard (there was one when I started, and 8 when I graduated) would try to grabbed skippers on the streets or at the local strip mall. I can't imagine what it's like now and that was a good (as in low crime rate) area. Less than a mile away there were million dollar homes filled with Penguins and Steelers players. BTW.. I have been looking into connections for my oldest son. He is high functioning autistic and has been having a really hard time this year |

I'm sure where I am in VA will not be to far behind.. in fact thats probably true for everywhere. Quoting: novamom Theres also a new principal this year too, I've heard hes basically starting to crack down on a lot of things. Teachers have no more casual Friday, dress code isn't uniform but you cannot have frayed jeans even (before it was simply no holes), and hes also starting cracking the whip on teachers to always have some kind of stupid "study exercise" at the beginning of class. Hell I think the art teacher is on the verge of being fired simply because the students all have their own projects they work on as soon as they enter, and she can't really assign something like that, but she must. We were meant to live for so much more, have we lost ourselves? |

I am not sure what the poster was referring to, parts of the area are really nice. For example, that old MTV show "Viva La Bam", was filmed at his parents house in West Chester. There are some very good communities and lots of money in the areas. KOP, King of Prussia, one of the largest and nicest malls in the country is only minutes from there. | Mg User ID: 29663307 12/12/2012 05:48 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I just went on a road trip to PA from DC where I live. My "boyfriend" and I wanted to go to White Castle for his b-day (see: Harold and Kumar). Anyway, we ended up staying in Allentown for a while and it reminded me a lot of Ohio. Quite dismal and I noticed several hookers around, lots of liquor stores, things you'd see in an urban setting just scattered across a rural setting. On the way home, we encountered what we believed to be "chemtrails" being sprayed all over this rural area in PA we were traveling through. We commented to each other how the people that we spoke to in PA were quite different than the people we know in the DC area. This isn't a jab at any of the fine, kind people in PA. But we both (independent from each other) remarked about how the people seemed to be in a zombie-like state... the typical kind of middle-American you'd picture that is totally brainwashed from too much TV. It was really odd actually. "Boyfriend" joked that it was because of the chemtrails. I know it's off topic, but since we're talking about PA, I thought I'd share. |

Quoting: Mg 29663307 I totally understand when you say the people are a little different there. Having grown up there and moving out of state, first to Nevada and now northern Virginia, when I go home, I notice that people are different.. It's almost like nobody has a brain for themselves. You could tell them anything and they would believe it and they are almost facinated when you tell them what life outside the Pittsburgh area is like. Not everybody, but it's a little strange. |
