I do not see anything odd or unusual about school police officers being armed.

In fact, NOT arming them is a mistake.

If a school needs a police officer, that officer should be armed. You do not send someone into danger without the equipment they need.

I have worked in schools since 2000. There have been officers constantly within the buildings since then. I do not know if their arms have changed in that time.

It is my assumption that there are guns and knives in school, every day.



Most of the time, nothing happens at all on school property. Students fight, off campus or in their neighborhoods. We have had violent crime within the building, including rape, but no shootings.

The rape occured when the officer was not in the building.
