BREAKING: North Korean Satellite Tumbling Out of Control | |
CharlieMurphy User ID: 21085501 United States 12/12/2012 07:26 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | CharlieMurphy, Quoting: Kybeam 27604421 In your estimation is the satellite under control ? Just your best guess. The orbit seems stable, as long as the point in which descent switches to ascent (and vice versa) stays the same. I noticed an anomaly in it's last time at the lowest point (perigee), the altitude report on the track was about 500km, but the listed altitude was 505km. I am not sure of the website though. I don't know if it has to do with the altitude of tracking stations or what, I am an amateur when it comes to this stuff. All that being said, it has been up there for more than 24 hours and is most likely in a stable orbit, or else it would have burned up in re-entry by now. As for it tumbling out of control, there is no way for any of us to know for sure. We have to take the word of the Authorities, Scientists, and Observers. Let me re-iterate, the tumbling most likely refers to the way the satellite is pointed. It could be spinning every which way and still remain in orbit for years as a piece of expensive space junk. Fuck Yea! |

CharlieMurphy User ID: 21085501 United States 12/12/2012 07:31 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | If it stays up there for long isn't it at risk of crashing into numerous other satellites? Seems like they would shoot it down in a controlled manner. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 25148952 They will keep track of it, even plot its course way into the future to make sure it is safe. If it is on a collision course with any of our stuff they would move it out of the way of this. Space is so vast at that altitude that it is very hard for collisions to happen. Blowing it up would only make the problem worse, spreading more space junk. The only safe way to bring it down is with a controlled de-orbit. I predict that sometime in the next 20 years (if we survive) we will have a system of unmanned space vehicles working to de-orbit space junk, or collect it in some space station for recycling. Fuck Yea! |

If you look at the satellite track, that interval in the red lines of its track will not change. You can predict its next couple passes over North America. Hell, on its next pass over the US you should be able to observe it in the east side of the country. I might even be able to in Chicago, although I think we are overcast here right now. About what time, Charlie? Georgia here. Who is John Galt? |

About what time, Charlie? Georgia here. I am just ball parking here, but about 15 minutes, +/- 5 minutes. It is currently over South America. It would be pretty high in the sky, to the east, moving from South to North. Lemme see if SW has it in their database... Fuck Yea! |

The best way to reunify North Korea with South Korea is to offer North Korean soldiers free McDonald's for a year and maybe give them a Hyundai if they lay down their weapons and peacefully cross the border to the South, never to return. |
