BREAKING: North Korean Satellite Tumbling Out of Control

nobody owns space, its not like flyin a plane over usa, the satelite is 550km high where there is NO territory and/or border

right now its at 500 km altitude and only 4 km per second.

that's only half the speed needed to stay in orbit.

Seems to be in a fairly stable eliptical orbit.

With orbital mechanics, the apogee (high point in the orbit) is the slowest "groundspeed" It will accellerate it's groundspeed as it goes towards perigee (the orbital low point).
How have they determined that it's "tumbling out of control"? I'm guessing just getting something upo there was enough, likely it doesn't even have attitude control (aka many early US satellites).

At least "Balloon Boy" didn't hitch a ride this time! geez...we would never hear the end of it! LOL

Yup, just like I stated quite a few times. It's not even that much off of a circularized orbit. It's funny watching every now and then someone say "its losing altitude!".

What is also funny is seeing GLP break the tracking site.

It must have been doing some kind of weird loop thing because I looked at it a little bit ago and it was on the same track that I saw 3 hours ago.

Where are you seeing this? I'm showing that she's gaining in altitude. She just surpassed 512 km above the earth.

I am pretty sure that the "Situation Room" has been discussing this for a while now. If shooting it down is a provocation, versus, the fact we let them provoke the US, by not stopping the launch or thereafter. You know..."If we do this, then they will do that"...so on, and so on!

About a half hour ago 2 F-15E's scrambled from Barnes Air Force Base in Westfield, MA heading due east with burners on.

its always losing altitude when flying over asia (about 315mi) and then going up when over america(about 365mi) its been like this for hours...

Heard them also I'm in Springfield. Something is up I've never heard them this late before in my life.

Maybe this is the reason they sent the space plane up. They probably knew the trajectory was going to be off with the orbit of the satellite. They probably sent the plane up to either destroy it, save it, watch it or a combination of all of the above. It will be interesting to see if we ever know what happens to the satellite unless it burns up on entry.

They may well be going somewhere quick, but not towards the satellite if heading east. Wouldn't make since with the position and speed of object now. The thin is travelling at roughly 17,000 MPH, and won't intersect the US again for quite a while.

whoa! that tracking site just looped backwards ... LOL. It jumped the satellite and it's data back about 3mins worth ... weird. Time loop.
