Maybe the name is jinxed and they should think up a new one. *8tw- I see that the one in March was to have an altitude of 500 Im watching that site and the altitude is falling [link to www.n2yo.com] Sheep the moon |

| 2012Portal 2012Portal - The Mayan Calendar User ID: 15022013 12/12/2012 06:09 PM ![]() Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | OK, right: Quoting: 2012Portal Perigee: 505.5 km Apogee: 588.5 km I think as long as she stays within those numbers, she is "normal." I'm not well versed in orbits and how they function as far as satellites remaining in orbit...does their altitude fluctuate as they rotate in their orbits around earth? Yes, part of getting into orbit you end up with one end higher than the other. Then once at the highest point (apogee), you burn along the prograde (the direction your headed) and that in turn brings up the altitude of your lowest point (perigee). You use these maneuvers to "circularize" to the height you want with it even on both sides. We don't know what the flight profile of this satellite was, maybe this was the intended orbit, or maybe the satellite malfunctioned before it had a chance to circularize its orbit better. Thanks @CharlieMurphy Good input, appreciate it! For a "tumbling out of control" satellite, it sure does appear to be A-Okay. Quoting: Lady Jane Smith Wonder how many scientists will die as a result of this? Don't those knuckleheads understand the fact that if you kill your scientists after every failed attempt at launching a rocket you will NEVER obtain a working rocket that can actually take something into orbit !? ![]() They don't call it rocket science for nothing, it's hard and you must learn from previous mistakes, but if they kill them after each attempt... ![]() ![]() |

Thanks @CharlieMurphy Good input, appreciate it! For a "tumbling out of control" satellite, it sure does appear to be A-Okay. No Problem. If it is "tumbling out of control", it probably means that it is spinning around in space not able to orient itself in a proper direction. With no air in space you can spin and flip and roll around all you want and it won't effect the direction your heading. What it will effect is being able to orient communication dish's, camera's, sensors, and most importantly solar panels. Unless this thing is an EMP satellite it is space junk if they can't get their rotation controls working. I doubt it is an EMP though, with their shitty track record of launching things I would not put a valuable nuke as the payload. GLP's lovable black man. |
