BREAKING: North Korean Satellite Tumbling Out of Control

looks like its gonna miss Australia, so that's out

now passing to the east of the northern most islands of Japan at an altitude of 319 miles which continues to decrease

It appears to be rising at times

No Problem.

If it is "tumbling out of control", it probably means that it is spinning around in space not able to orient itself in a proper direction. With no air in space you can spin and flip and roll around all you want and it won't effect the direction your heading.

What it will effect is being able to orient communication dish's, camera's, sensors, and most importantly solar panels. Unless this thing is an EMP satellite it is space junk if they can't get their rotation controls working.

I doubt it is an EMP though, with their shitty track record of launching things I would not put a valuable nuke as the payload.

I havent been this glued to watching something come down, since tower guy from tulsa!!

Heres an odd thought... every time it rotates it comes closer to places like North and South America. Won't it eventually go over every place on the earth at least once? If it did have a target and this wasn't a weather sat, could they be waiting until their target is within range to drop whatever is needed to be dropped back into orbit and hope no one notices until it is too late?
