If you were really determined to get a degree, these courses should give credits in order for one to enter into further study, especially when such esteemed lecturers give up their time to do this fantastic venture, because outside of the virtual world, these certificates don't really have any weight now do they?

So the site just becomes another place to learn - whoch you can do through self study on the internet, so I am wondering, OP, whats the point of this again?

These free courses could be used to an advantage at the community and university level. You could take the free course then test out of the "real" course. Saves time & money.

Is this for usa residents only or can anyone from anywhere register to do these free courses? Does anyone know? Thanks in advance.

I completely understand your viewpoint, but I believe its twofold.

This opportunity is great for those of us that would prefer this type of setting, can't travel to another country or can't afford it.

Personal self-accomplishment.

Really, I don't see any downside for anyone interested in these subjects to pursue their goals of furthering their knowledge. No one coming out of it expects to go work for NASA.

Knowledge is Power, Not money, wherever you get it from.
