I didn't know about the counterfeiting
I went to the bank to get cash for gift certificates, they scanned the cash in a machine to see if any was counterfeit. I went to the grocery to buy the certificates and they had a machine that they scanned to 100s with. I went to get carryout and they had a sign that said they don't take 50s or 100s because of counterfeiting.

Has this been going on for a long time?

Has it become easy to do?

A nice scanner is all you need I guess.

Let's say that you would like to start a life of crime by creating your own counterfeit currency. The easiest way to print your own money is to use your PC. If you own a scanner and a printer, it is pretty easy to get started.

I don't carry big bills so I haven't seen this before. I don't carry them because they are hard to break but not because of the counterfeiting situation. I guess scanning them is no big deal, except if the machine doesn't work and they get spit back 3 times each I suppose then it's just a matter of patience.

Yep and as a business if you end up with more than a few counterfeits being spent in your store the FBI takes interest rather quick.

What counterfeiters do is just like the old E-mail scam.

Starts; You send me $1000 in small bills and I will send you $5,000 in 100’s. People fall for it, then the person thinks they just hit the lotto because people are gullible and when they try to spend the 100’s they go to jail and the counterfeiter just made a grand with no real risk. They do it from countries with no extradition.

Now when the store you own starts receiving these 100’s the FBI looks at the owners and employees really close to see if the store it-self is putting these fake bills in to circulation for someone. It becomes a real pain real quick if you get even just one fake bill a month.
I'm only human, it's my biggest flaw.

We must all realize a sink a chair and a pillow are all luxuries of home and a soldiers helmet takes the place of all three.

That explains the dirty look I got when I asked about the sign. He said someone passed a 5 off as a fifty.
