well, I tried to deduce two different sources for an increase in stress. Since you're implying it won't very public it means my first theory is incorrect. So that leaves us with out-of-the-box situations, and being december 2012, there are few places the mind can wander to.

if most of the civilians will remain unaware, I wonder what kind of scenario that could be and what are the consequences for not succeeding...

The power grid is going to die..heck..it ALREADY IS..and all those soldiers will be called in to keep the peace..but most of them will be worried shitless about their OWN families..and the stress of having to shoot and kill their own countrymen..they will either tear of their uniforms and give uncle sam the finger and go to their own families..OR..they will somehow do their duty..but the diddonance created in them will eventually become too much to contain, resulting in a stress overload..and many will go nuts and put a bullet through their brain, rather than face the inner turmoil and grief a second longer.

I have two theories on Sage:

(1. Involuntary separation due to partaking of spice/bath salts/UCMJ. He talks like a lower enlisted, most likely an E-4. Sage is making a prediction based upon countless hours of Suicide Prevention PowerPoint statistics that show an arch of suicidal data. His "prediction" also speaks of fear of being on the outside, projecting his insecurities upon those he leaves behind.

(2. Sage wants others to validate his "secret" knowledge, whereby validating his own fears.

I do not marginalize Sage nor his service record. However, this entire thread seems crass. Yes, there is a lot of suicide within the ranks and yes it is the worst seen in quite some time. However, it has also been an extremely long war and contributing factors which have sadly taken lives.

I challenge Sage to come back to this thread and answer this question:
Why do you attempt to glorify needless deaths in such a manner?

There is a difference between scientific quantification of suicides, thereby affecting change and providing intervention tools for change and the preceived intent of Sage.

Maybe a lot of "suicides" are really KIA but they can't admit it. (Yemen, Uganda, Libya ect.)

I think not. Soldiers near family needing their help do not suicide. They might defect or awol. Suicide is either about being ubable to live with the shame of the past, the pain of the present, or an impossible future. Its not about conflicted interests.
