Some of the largest tides of the year are due to hit California’s beaches Wednesday through Friday, according to the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration’s National Weather Service office in Monterey. These highest of high tides are a result of the position of the moon and sun, according to the Weather Service, and occur at least once a year. [ link to www.californiakingtides.org] [ link to youtu.be] San Francisco Bay and nearby beaches are expected to have a “king tide” in the next few days. A king tide causes coastline inundation, and is an usually high tide caused by solar and lunar gravitational pull. Rainstorms from the Gulf of Alaska are predicted for December 12, coinciding with a forecast for up to 10 feet above the normal water level in parts of the Bay Area. Storms resume on the weekend, just in time for more high tides. [ link to www.examiner.com] |

Beaches will vanish. Bay waters will lap inches below the San Francisco International Airport's runway during the King Tide phenomena Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
