THE MEN WHO BUILT AMERICA, was a great series. I knew most of it, but what a great educational film for those union taught students that maybe watched it.
Quoting: Desert Fox I found many things in that series that surprised me actually. I didn't realize what UBER tyrants the early years of the Industrial Revolution bred. That country club based dam they made that wiped out the whole town...and most of Carnegie's reputation was sickening. There were a few other eye openers too....but it really was still kind of like The Wild West in those days and people got away with a lot. It was very much dog eat dog for sure, but those players were really no different than companies today if you think about it. One will destroy the other if given the chance, but that is what drives companies to out perform their competitors. Our system, and it works well without Communist control, but is dying under it. I don't know if I totally agree. Companies today have uber many more restrictions and regulations on them that prevent them from going at each others throats like the old days of the Industrial Revolution. They don't try to "destroy" each other in the same way as it was back then. It's more civilized now....and no one on that level get totally annihilated like the Vanderbilt "railroad wars". ...then again....there were no laws to stop them from doing that to each other. It's almost like they were taking clubs to each others heads back then. It is true too, the Capitalist system....when left alone and uncorrupted by individual greed or government facists does well.....but we are talking about a Utopia that will never totally exist as long as there are men who still seek to control others and their assets. We have one of them in the Whitehouse right now unfortunately. :eastlight: Key words, regulations and civilized. How-ever, with corrupt government entities help, some companies can get away with a great deal of undesirable behavior. General Electric being one grand example. Got to call it a night, but enjoyed the exchanges. DF
