Quoting: Anonymous Coward 10743044 I've looked during "peak" shower times for years and never seen more than one during a smoke. This is incredible! They are going in all directions, seems like they're coming from overhead... Ohio, BTW. Ohio here too...had to go out to smoke after I saw this post! | Anonymous Coward User ID: 12005813 12/13/2012 02:02 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Louisiana here as well! I just went outside for about 10 minutes and saw 7, but 5 of them were in about a 2 minute time span. And yes! it's cold as shit here in Louisiana tonight! I'm in Lafayette and it's 36 right now. One thing many people don't realize is that a 36 degree temp down here actually has a chill factor of about 20. The air is heavy and wet being so close to the Gulf of Mexico. So the humidity makes it hot as shit in the summer, and cold as shit in the winter. LoL I remember going skiing in Vail, CO a few years ago and I was standing outside in 5 degree weather and was thinking to myself WTF??? It felt like what 40 degrees feels like in Louisiana. It's crazy. |

Too cool! I'm in North Phoenix by one of the mountain preserves. Thanks for posting this O.P. |

And when the air is wet and blowing, 20F can suck. . . . --- We all breathe the same air |

We were out for about 15 minutes and counted over 30 shooting stars and then we saw a beautiful fireball that was blue with an orange tail. It was so pretty! "Your talent is God’s gift to you. What you do with it is your gift back to God" |

| mathetes User ID: 18119575 12/13/2012 03:07 AM ![]() Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Add this: New meteor shower might coincide with 2012 Geminids! Debris left behind by Comet Wirtanen might produce 30 meteors per hour, added to 100 meteors per hour from the Geminids. That would be an awesome meteor show! We’ve had lots of reports of meteors this week, and most are probably part of the Geminid meteor shower, scheduled to peak late night December 13 to dawn December 14 for North American (evening December 14 to dawn December 15 for Asia). But NASA is saying there’s a second possible meteor shower that could significantly boost the number of meteors you’ll see. The source of the possible new shower is Comet 46P/Wirtanen. Bill Cooke of NASA’s Meteoroid Environment Office says debris left in Wirtanen’s orbit might produce as many as 30 meteors per hour, added to the 100 meteors per hour from the Geminids. That would be an awesome meteor show! (SE part of State) I haven't seen this many stars out (constellations) ever in my quarter century of life. And to top it all of.. every few minutes the Western Sky is pelted with another fragment of outer space. Very hard to capture, they last a mere moment. Also, I find that some of the stars doing a bizarre wobbling? Can someone explain this phenomenon to me? Its as if they are getting closer and then tuning back to their regular position. 1 Day... U will find what U R l00kin' for. |

Oh man, I wish you could see what I'm seeing only an hour and and a half east of you. It's like the night sky decided to upgrade to 3DHD just for tonight, probably has something to do with the temperature we've been receiving. For this time of year she is rather abnormal. 1 Day... | Anonymous Coward User ID: 28854292 12/13/2012 04:03 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Just took my dog out and didn't see anything looking at orion. Stopped for a sec before coming in and saw 4 in about 1 minute, 3 in 2 seconds! Go two fists up and one fist over from the little dipper for a point of origin. In Virginia if it matters, but were nearing dawn so it's approaching prime viewing time. |
