Well, after personally having lived in both Japan and China for 15 years, I can tell you that I would be on the Japanese side.

Agree with you on that one, but I fear for Japan what with China's increasingly hegemonistic attitude these days. Infact I fear for everyone.

What is it with the Chinese. Haven't they got enough land and resources. They are acting like your average schoolyard bully. Well, I hope that someone gives them a smack in the nose.
They're building naval bases in the Indian Ocean, taking over much of Africa, buying almost the whole industrial output of Brazil and Aus. Protect their currency, keep every foreigner at arms length, dictate to every other country what their internal and external policies should be, ie, don't speak with the Dalai Lama etc (ref the recent TV documentary about such aired in the UK ) and yet tell the rest of us where to go when we speak up for human rights violations which we witness happening in their country.
Fuck the country is really pissing me off.

The far-right-wing "Japan Restoration Party" of Shinatro Ishihara is becoming very popular in Japan. They will put several hundred candidates up for election in the next national election. Even if they do not win so many seats they will be a "force to be reckoned with." Such kind of party has never had this much interest in Japan since after world war 2. If they gain influence there is a chance of heightened conflict with china. Before that, I would say the chances of conflict are not so great.

If nuclear armed China with the biggest standing army decides to provoke and/or attack another giant Japan, the world as we know it will end. One can create quickly scenarios with Koreas, US bases involved, etc. Russia doesn't need to mess up at the beginning.

China will not nuke Japan. China has enough power to overwhelm Japan, and enough historical reasons too. So if this is the end game scenario to be played out, we will have a massive Asian war as in 1930s [link to en.wikipedia.org] before the real world war starts. Just a suggestion.
