Hate to say it (since I'm a woman) but there is something biological about men's disdain for women.

As a woman in high tech I've watched time after time in the highly-civilized "board room" as women are not allowed to speak. Men interrupt women, ignore them, and subtlely put down their contributions. But mostly, they just can't seem to sit still and listen for more than a few minutes at a time.

I don't think men like the sound of women's voices! Men will listen contently to another man blabber on forever even if he has nothing useful to say, but a woman making good points gets shut down.

It's something about voice pitch. Maybe tonality. And god help the woman whose pitch rises ever so slightly in a heated conversation. She's now "shrill".

The other biological problem is sheer physical size. A woman is always looking up when interacting with men. This is a signal of submissiveness in all social animals.

There you have it. As an independent woman all my life (I didn't have to TRY to be independent, I just naturally am) I used to think I could walk through life as men's equal. I now realize it is impossible.

Women have to make the best of the hand they've been dealt.
