UPDATE! 3 days in a row the Mid-Atlantic Ridge has had medium sized quakes. Something to keep an eye on. SoCal Quake just now!
Thursday December 13 2012, 10:02:43 UTC 2 hours ago northern Mid-Atlantic Ridge 4.7 10.1 USGS Feed
[link to quakes.globalincidentmap.com]

This is the 3rd day in a row that there has been an M4+ along the Mid-Atlantic Ridge.

There have been plenty of quakes there in the past, but typically seperated by weeks and/or months. It's not an overly active area usually.

If this ridge starts seeing more quakes and/or larger quakes, the potential is there for some serious East Coast trouble.

Just something to keep an eye on.

Here is info on one of the other recent quakes on the ridge. I'm having trouble finding the other. Weird.

last time i saw something like that (though it might have been just one 5+ quake on the ridge), the volcano-that-no-one-can-pronounce erupted in Iceland

Here is a question, if there was a big enough one there, would it create a tsunami on the east coast? Just wondering where I live in North Carolina.

Why look at USGS when you know they are constantly editing out quakes?

That actually is very true, they do edit out many of the quakes. I was shocked when I saw many quakes that happened just up and disappear for no reason.

No, the fault lines in the atlantic aren't subduction zones, so if a quake occurs there, the ocean floor isn't lifted up but moves sidewards.
A VERY large slip strike quake however can generate a small local tsunami. But not one capable of reaching the contnental plates.

The mid-Atlantic ridge is magnetic and gets a tug by planet X everyday as they align...

Sun's binary twin approaching at increasing speed, because G = M1 X m2 DIVIDED by the distance SQUARED. As the denominator decreases, typo value goes from 1, to 4 to 16 times the former value.

Probably coming in at billions of miles per hour presently.

Not sure it has ever happened. The Mid Atlantic is a divergent plate. There is no shearing force, that I would think could cause a tsunami. It is a plate that moves further apart as new crust forms. I guess a strong enough quake could surely push the water and cause damage.
