The Officer still has a real job unlike Carlo who cant even pay his registration fee.


Sounds to me like the Officer had a moment of Guilt.

How about to make sure he used the money to take care of the registration.

If he didn't give the ticket the guy probably would have went and bought a hooker with the 100.00

Now people are getting paid to break the law,cool.

While this guy gets a break I get pulled over 45 minutes after my registration expires.

The police are not required to write any citation. The SCOTUS has ruled on several cases that police are not under any obligation to do anything.

Even most states statutes spell out enforcement is the officers discretion.

He is free to pay for others, he was just as free NOT to write the citation, he could have written a warning or just given the guy the Bill and walked away.

This could be used as a great sermon illustration to talk about God's needs for justice (wages of sin) and then his grace in paying the price himself

He was able to give him $100 because public service jobs have seen their salaries double in many places over the last 10 years. Read yesterday that a psychiatrist for CA prisoners made over $800K last year. Received his education in Pakistan about 10 years ago.

I'm not saying it wasn't a nice gesture though. BTW, the department probably fired the cop after the guy's father wrote the letter.

Cops, government employees and politicians do it every day, in fact, they get paid to enforce laws on others while they break it themselves.

In many departments once the expired tag was called in and run through the computer they have to give the ticket. Otherwise it opens them up to all sorts of lawsuits from discrimination when they wright the next guy a ticket and don't let him go, to miss use of the computers. We did it to ourselves by complaining so much, the days of letting a person go for the right reasons is nearly gone. It is a shame.

No disputing that. And don't get me wrong, I had two uncles who were cops. Just saying, in general, government services are the hot jobs of the future, unfortunately. Have an aunt who works with retarded children and makes $100K from the state. She's retiring soon and will continue to receive 90% of her salary for the rest of her life. Try finding that deal in the private sector.
