Why isn't suicide legal?

if you're successful does it really matter?

It is better to be the living dead than the dead dead. Suicidal people should go to a feeding center in Sudan and give themselves to a cause, like if they were dead and had no dreams. Just the shirt on their back and a toothbrush and a back pack. No debts to pay, no grind, just a tent, join a mission keep it simple. Act dead and serve the living. Instead of killing yourself and going somewhere you might regret because you dont know what happens to suicides when they die.

Like one day you just make an announcement. "I am dead to this world." You give back your Jeep to the car lot. (cuz jeeps make you want to die) Give your crap away and go join the red cross or something like that. Dang, have a mock funeral even, to send yourself off. Let your loved ones say a few words and tell them don't call me Ill call you, explain to them this is an alternative to suicide and they will certainly understand. then let go of all your troubles, and drop out.

But do not kill your self because you dont know what happens to a suicidal person when they die.

My Dad committed suicide this week.

You will not go to jail, for you are dead.

The law is nothing compared to the real problem of suicide; karma. Listen there are reason why you face problems, but one must go through that suffering.

If you kill yourself, you will only make that karma worse, there is no scape from it. We are not free. But face those problems and then we might.

It is about land, labor and wealth.

It used to be that for the prince to have his stables, his wine cellar, his castle and his velvet and lace, he had to have a bunch of us picking and plowing and milking and herding and sewing and tending and living off the scraps of what our own hands and backs produced on his land.

Our labor was needed (for the prince's wealth) whether we enjoyed life or didn't. No one really cared what we felt. They cared that we work. Even when we preferred to die.

So suicide was banned and punished by religion and law. We were told God would punish us forever. We knew we would be shamed and punished if we tried and failed. Our families would be shamed and ostracised if we succeeded. That's what I mean by punished for suicide.

Think of the negotiation power peasants would have if they told theirlandlord--"if we don't get fully half of what we produce on your land we will avoid having children. You won't break another life on your land. And if you don't let us hunt as you do we will hang ourselves, three each night, until there is no one left to pick your grapes and olives but you. You won't be able to bring more serfs when the story goes around that we hanged ourselves from hunger."

S of course the majority had to be convinced that God forbade suicide. And that God was real. And that the priest knew God better that your grandma. And that people who said the priest was full of it, or even mistaken were blasphemers who had to be rejected and killed some horrible way.

Today, we still follow those laws and ideas. Suicide is forbidden. Family planning is suspect. Labor organizers are labeled godless communists. Atheism is scapegoated.

But our lives today are not the lives of serfs. If you are suicidal you are depressed. Its the cold dark gloomy December. Take some fish oil. Exercise even if you hate it. See a doc if you can. Wait for the sun.

If you know a place with glaring bright lights, go there in the morning. Any kind of light will do. It should feel real good. Then get all the daylight you can.

Suicide is not illegal, though quite rightly assisting someone to do so is. However if it is shown that the assistance was justifiable rarely will a court punish a person further than a hearing.

The only time suicide is acceptable is when a person is chronically irreversibly ill in great pain or indignity. A person who is mentally imbalanced whether temporarily or permanently requires support.

Suicidal thoughts are perfectly normal and should be followed by "what's the hurry?" There is absolutely no hurry to end life - life is short enough as it is. One might as well sick around for a bit and see what happens. When a person is in very low spirit, there is only one way to go, and that is up so stick around for a bit!

Dead men can't pay taxes - that's why.

The marines have a law that state it is illegal to commit suicide and until that law is undone it will be illegal.

If a marine attempts suicide and fails they can be thrown in the slammer for a long time. If they do not fail the govt then can withold all payments to their familys, so all in all it is a monetary issue to them.


It has nothing to do with your needs as a civilian person, it is just upholding some old military monetarial and perhaps ego male agendas for the group to continue on the same paths.

Because they can't just say it's fine to kill yourself, there has to be a law for it. I have never heard of anyone trying to take their life and then put in jail though.

Suicide should never be allowed. Never.

It is too bad that they didn't do it a long time ago. I always thought the suicide centers that were portrayed in the movie "Soylent Green" were a good idea. A simple, painless, pleasant way to check out when you have had enough. It just makes sense.

That's going to happen sooner or later anyway, may as well make dying illegal if the risk of some body cleanup is such a crime.
