I am extremely happy about this law! I believe the old law stated commercial sound/decibel level was allowed to be the highest decibel level of the program...so if a bomb explosion was heard the commercial could run at that volume in entirety.

Fuck commercials and consumerism in my home; they are my ears and repetitive high decibel listening causes deafness.

Now if we could just get rid of commercials altogether life would be even better. Hell, make a commercial channel for those who want to view them...ha!

...

They don't do that. Broadcasters in the US have technical specifications that they must meet. They do not turn up the volume when a commercial comes on.

Commercials may sound louder simply because the advertiser has jam-packed the soundtrack of the commercial with sound. One might say that the amount of sound increases during a commercial. But the volume level does not.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 29301466

:This^^^:
it's called compression.
 Quoting: omar

That's ridiculous. There's no extra sounds...It's just one man and his stupid car commercial yelling boot-camp style at you through the speakers.

I'm not so sure what you guys think the FCC is going to use this legislation for to somehow take away your rights, but you need to chill out.
 Quoting: -GooGooFlexy-

Please learn:-

Compression is often used to make music sound louder without increasing its peak amplitude. By compressing the peak (or loudest) signals, it becomes possible to increase the overall gain (or volume) of a signal without exceeding the dynamic limits of a reproduction device or medium.
[link to en.wikipedia.org]
 Quoting: omar

When producing AV all audio is compromised in post production ,nothing is ever louder than 0db it is called compression , expansion, and limiting . the layman’s terms to this would be when you look at a car side mirror Thing may appear closer then they seem.

This doesn't mean you're not still being "programmed" by these advertisements. Turn the TV off and make a real life.

'Loud Commercials' Will Be Banned From TV Starting Dec. 13 Thanks To The FCC

Beginnning Dec. 13, those commercials will cease to exist. That's when the U.S. Federal Communications Commission will start enforcing in earnest the Commercial Advertisement Loudness Mitigation Act, or CALM Act, enacted in 2010. The FCC's new rules will require broadcast-television stations and pay-TV providers to make sure advertisements have the same average volume as the programs they accompany, the agency said on its website.

The affected companies will have had a year to get ready for the FCC's new regulations, which were OK'd on Dec. 13 of last year.

----------------------------------------------------------

Q: What can I do about loud commercials?
A: Provide the FCC with specific information about TV commercials that seem louder than the programming they accompany by filing a complaint. You may also submit a complaint to the relevant TV station, pay TV provider, programming network or advertiser to convey your concern.

To file a complaint with the FCC go here [link to www.fcc.gov]
 Quoting: =EkIm=

he lw baisicly existred already, but here is how they get around it.

The "AVERAGE" they measure is 0db-which never actually happens and the loudest bang/boom...whtever.

They divide by 2 and that is their "average" number, which, as we all know is MUCH louder than the real average volume.

Again, these aren't loud commercials.

What the FCC has done has banned the level of COMPRESSION you can put on audio files on the television.

That's disgusting.

You can have free press and free speech...but just not free COMPRESSED press or free "LOUD" speech.

Good. I always found it annoying when a commercial comes on and it's much louder than the TV show you're watching. I actually support this as legislation that actually makes sense.

I choose the following option:
Ban companies from jacking the volume of commercials to ear-drum rupture levels.

The FCC also 'regulates' telemarketers with National do not call registry. I signed up for this years ago and I continue to get these calls anyway.

Our world is going to shit and you people are celebrating the FCC enforcing a "loud commercial" ban?

You people are fucking retarded.

You know what to do at this point... suicide
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 23766809

I dont even watch regular television and havent for yrs..but yes I'm celebrating cause I am very familiar with the loud commercials. Besides we have less and less to celebrate now days so let people celebrate even if it is trivial. And BTW your a bitch!
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 29712787

laugh We've got an internet tough guy on our hands here!

I don't even own a TV chucklehead. Fuck that shit.

Oh, and BTW, I celebrate our society's impending collapse.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 23766809

Fucking nihilist piece of shit.

Anyway, I'm glad they're finally enforcing the law. I haven't watched TV or owned one in years, mostly because of the stupid loud commercials. I just download my shit with the commercials already edited out.

But at least I can be at ease with the knowledge that future generations at least won't have to suffer through that "Aaauugghh! HOLY SHIT! Oh it's just the god damn commerical" moment like us older folks did.
