If I let this go much further, I will end up buying dozens of meals. I'm easy, what can I say. I'm going to send three dinners out after I review the posts. So please check your GLP mailboxes in the next hour. I'm getting to work right now. Thank all of you for your wonderful responses and good hearts. Keep up the holiday spirit no matter what. A lot of you are so strong. Bare with me. |

| OnTheFence User ID: 11811014 12/13/2012 04:12 PM ![]() Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Something I have wanted to do, but just haven't mustered up the courage to do, is invite a homeless person over for Christmas dinner. When my mother was a little girl, her father every year would bring someone to their home to have a Christmas dinner with them. He would say to her " it is just another potato in the pot for us, but a warm meal and place to stay for them". Quoting: CrazyMama73 My mother said even though she was very scared at first seeing these strangers, they always brought wonderful stories to the table and one man showed magic tricks. Now if I can muster the courage and convince my husband that it is a good idea, I will try it. I always wanted to do this also. But with so many bad people in this world ... your odds of taking in a thief with a knife is greater than inviting in a good person. So sad that is the world we live in now. |

I just wondered why this amazing Christian felt the need to point out their charitable work and the fact that the bay was black. BTW I'm a Christian not that I feel the need to tell anyone and I really respect what Pokerface is doing. Night_Prowler |

Not fun to constantly be short-sheeted, or even to receive a gift to remind a person how desperate life is. I do think a link to an email & to receive more relief from worry is a lot more helpful. :D |
| Anonymous Coward User ID: 28952062 12/13/2012 04:27 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I have a person OP but I dont want to exploit this online. Cancer victim, victim's usual job is helping those who are ill/elderly. The persons parents are ill right now and usually would provide this for them but they are elderly and ill at this time. I dont think they can even help their family member right now due to being sick and the person/cancer victim had surgery this week. I am going to help out some but I cannot provide their meal-I know they do try to have yearly, this year not so sure. They all attend church every week if they are physically able to, one parent is blind. They are some of the most decent people around actually but hard times fall upon all of us at times. If interested I will send you info somehow, let me know. |

I don't get it, unless people are 10 miles out from nearest town, every community I've ever known is a veritable beehive of willing helpers who are glad to do so. What happened to local helping your neighbor and local organizations which are everywhere..I don't understand some of these stories. If the need is so miniscule especially. |
