I agree with them being a mental disorder
Think about this...
The mind when is calm and in peace is able to create a certain situation or an approach to one in a more logic way which leads to a good result
now
add emotions, this calm and peaceful mind becomes clouded, a dense fog that feeds a thought and/or reaction.
