On December 21st we enter what is known as the photon belt. It will take us approximately 2,000 to 3,000 years to traverse this. Also on this day is what is known as the Galactic Alignment between our planets, our sun, a sun in the pleiades known as Alcyone ( [link to en.wikipedia.org] and our galactic center. The Mayans, Aztecs, etc knew of this alignment and noted it for future generations to find. It was an important day for these ancient astronomers.
