And I'd bet the doctors are NOT the ones contributing.

Where I work the CEO makes about $1 million a year, and yet I can't get a raise any higher than 15 cents. So now there is a move to bring in unions.

The slavepital I worked at several years ago..

we first started out caring for 4-5 patients a night.

I worked night shift. 12 hours.

Then, the slavepital decided profit margin was not high enough.

We had our night shift differential taken away and had to care for 8 patients to 9 a night; and cut an RN.

The CEOs

drove new cars that next year....

I quit and never went back to slavepital

That's what happens with private, "for profit" hospitals. McJobs in the name of "efficiency" and "shareholder value."

At least up here even they guy mopping the puke of the floor gets paid a living wage + benefits.

Seriously, with the rates they charge in US hospitals, they can't afford to pay their staff a decent living wage.

Ugg, profit over people once again.

the best part is, they've been killing the poor for years with BPA can liners...

I keep hoping that people are going to start doing things in a way that makes sense but it just seems to be getting screwier and screwier and screwier. It's almost as if no one wants to be the only one that stands up and says " hey, wait a minute. None of this is making any sense!"

People are paid what they are worth...some just aren't worth shit...anyone can push a broom...if you want to make more money then go learn a skill...

This hospital is non profit, which means the ceos salaries are publicly posted.

If i was an employee i would find those salries and exploit them.

I have never seen anything so offensive in hospital industry before...

Most do huge christmas dinners, give bonuses etc.....

Really sad.

The hospital may be hurting with all of the expenses trying to meet electronic deadlines that have to be met by 2014 and the upcoming icd 10 codeset conversions....but It is still no excuse though.

I feel awful for the employees.

Might i also add judging by their documentation, it doesnt look like the invest much in their corporate communications team either.

It makes purrrfect sense.

This country is still a mindset of:

those at the top (the kings and queens) who make a lot of $$$$ regardless if they really do anything but sit around all day

in their glass houses and dress up nice


WHile the "poor orphan Olivers" of the world (the working slaves)

Walmart needs to do this also. They have food drives/school supply drives/angel trees etc..but when I was single with 2 kids and worked for them I never got any help..I had no extra to donate, my kids did not get clothes for school. They used the left over supplies they had from the previous yr for school. So I personally see this as a good idea. YEA they should pay a living wage but since they arent I guess this will help.

Most of our "poor" aren't as poor as you'd be made to think. They have their priorities all jacked up.

In communism, true communism - the staff would own the hospital.

Brief, normally I agree with you, even with your bluntness.....but keep in mind a LOT of hospital workers, a majority ....are already in school, trying to work their way up. So its not quite fair to make that statement.

well we can only blame ourselves for allowing it all to unfold.

In that slavepital I worked as an RN

I did the work of 3 people at times

I should have made at least a 6 figure income

I made 14 dollars an hour and they denied me a raise

this was in 1998.

And by being in school they are probably doing a job that anyone could do...therefore they are easily replaced and being paid what they are worth.

My only hope is that the food offered is not the left over hospital cafeteria slop from the previous week.
