I pay people what they are worth, so if I want the best in the field I pay them more...so if a janitor makes 20K on average, I will pay a bit more than that for a superior one with experience and in the top of his field...it's called competition and it works...offering top salary to the stoner that halfass cleans is not who I want, let the stoner work for the loser company down the road.

While that's kinda true, but you're missing the point. You know as well as I do that they have just as many over-paid staff as they do under. The same could be said for the CEOs and other board members..they aren't really worth that kinda money.


Regardless, the problem is the fact that people continue to work there and don't go somewhere else.

As long as people fill those positions, they aren't going to change anything. People have to set an example and not work there instead of just bitching about it.

If the position was made unattractive, they would increase the wage until it garners attraction...simple as that.

So what you are saying is that they are WRONG not to pay their employees a living wage.

You certainly can't tell me that every worker in that hospital is a slacker, stoner worker. Many of them would fall into your category of workers worth paying more to.

I wouldn't be where I am today without much hard work, but I see others working just as hard, just no opportunities to better themselves.

Lady luck and nepotism plays a huge part in who makes it and who doesn't in this world.

Skill and education are only a small fraction of the equation.

That's the point...I guarantee those who are unsatisfied with their pay have looked around and were not offered any more money because they are at the top of their pay scale already, therefore if they want to EARN more money then they need to offer something over their competition, like learning or improving on a skill.

If you don't like what you make then go to another company that is willing to give you more because you bring a skill to that company that they need.

If you have nothing more to offer that makes you more money then you are at the top of your pay scale for your particular set of skills...so then what?

Quite possible. I think the biggest problem is people nowadays try to live above and beyond their means.

They get themselves a 15k-20k salary job and then purchase the highest priced house a loan officer will give them. They purchase the highest priced car they can qualify for or they think they need two of them.

They have all kinds of 'unnecessary' features on their cell phone, cable and internet bills.

In other words, they try to live like kings and bitch when they can't.

I know this isn't everyone of them. But, I've seen enough people like this to know it's really common.

If you get paid cheap...you gotta live cheap..if you screw up..there's little room for error, and you're gonna be going to a food bank or whatever to make up the difference.

I'm a financial counselor, and you are exactly right...the problem in most cases is not low pay, it's overspending and borrowing...

I get what you are saying, but if they are not paying any of the skilled workers enough to live, then it is time for the workers to band together to force a trickle down effect of wages.

This is the premise of why and how unions were formed.

No...I have my own business and am employed. Unlike you, I see another side of life with intelligent and hard working people, who through no fault of their own, have been humbled into taking lower paying jobs to make ends meet. Mostly seniors... and I am quite sure they work twice as hard as you on any given day. You think you're something special...but you're not. You've failed miserably at being a real human with no heart or compassion for anyone but yourself. I hope one day...due to your puffed up gloating...you lose it all and have to work beside them at Mc Donald's to make a living.

In true communism the doctors would get the same wage as the cleaners and struggle with a second job to make enough money too survive.

Most people borrow money because they are selfish...they justify it with reasons for needing it, whatever "it" is...a new car, a house...we just had a kid now we need a new van...

I don't know who William Buffet is, but Warren started with $100 and invested wisely, didn't do poor people things with money like buy lotto tickets, and made himself a multibillionaire...now he feels guilty in his old age and has turned liberal :(

The opponents of this would see it the same way if they owned a company with a moderate staff. Just imagine, you worked hard and focused throughout high-school while a lot of the kids around you slacked...you got a low-paying job and bought yourself a used car, put all your money into fixing it and keeping it running while, you worked your way through college eating nothing but pasta noodles 5 nights a week.

You finally graduate college and set out on building the dream you had since you were a teenager of a company. You first get a job with your degree to get some solid startup money going and work hard through a job you don't want to do --saving all of your money -- again only living off the bare essentials. People all around you buying and spending on stuff..you can't go nowhere..you can't buy anything because you need to get where you want to go.

You have enough money to put down on a loan...you get yourself a nice building in the city to begin your company. You start making a name for yourself..working long hours..all alone. Finally, you can hire one employee...then two..then three..and it begins to grow into a respectable corporation.

After a few years of solid growth..all those people that were slacking around you start to look at you as a greedy bastard.

Your employees think you are a scrooge and don't do enough for them. They form a union and begin setting rules that start to squeeze all of your funds from the inside out and you begin to bleed and start loosing your profits.

You can't purchase your equipment, pay your licensing fees, can't afford repairs..

Customers start noticing that the quality of your products is decreaseing...you lose further money...the union still demands more pay..more benefits..

and you have to default....


All of your work for your entire life..is gone..and all the slackers around you cheer..and say "You deserved it."

No, in Communism the state owns the hospital. The workers make a pittance because the government provides them with apartments without heat, and grocery stores without food, so they need little money to buy things like food and housing.

The State owns the assets, including your pitiful salary, and they decide how much to give you. Then they fund nice daschas (villas) for the party bosses.

Here the government pretends to pay you your whole salary, but extracts fully 1/2 of it for taxes and fees.

If the government would let people keep what they make, like they used to, people would not be in such poverty that they need food banks.


Nobody sets up food banks in Communist countries.

Basically....that is what is happening with ObamaCare.

May want to check the corporate charter on this hospital. Ours is an eleemosynary hospital and the docs and corporate heads all do very well on large incomes. Just saying, the way things are going it doesn't have to be a "private for profit" to underpay staff.
