Meteor Scan going nuts !

Meteor scan is going in spurts - one minute it's all blue (calm/normal) then 5 minutes later it's all lit up (active).

And keep in mind, this is from just one section of the sky over the UK !

me and wife just seen one never in my life seen anything like it before, it turned green and yellow and lit the ground up, unbelievable,it shot across the whole of the sky my hearts still pounding,

I know the Geminid meteor shower is peaking - but this says there is a new as yet unnamed shower from the comet Wirtanen. What? How do we have a new one?
