I've never seen the whole thing light up like that before...can a meteor shower really do that? It wasn't like that during the last meteor shower.

Again, [link to fenton.patch.com] is the reason the readings are so high.

Please do some research.

A New Meteor Shower in December?
Dec. 11, 2012: If you're outdoors after sunset this week, be alert for meteors. Not only is the Geminid meteor shower active as Earth passes through a stream of debris from "rock comet" 3200 Phaethon, but also, say forecasters, a new meteor shower could make an appearance.

"The source of the new shower is Comet Wirtanen," says Bill Cooke of NASA's Meteoroid Environment Office. "Dust from this comet hitting Earth's atmosphere could produce as many as 30 meteors per hour."

Comet Wirtanen was discovered in 1948, just after World War II, and takes 5.4 years to orbit the sun. It reaches its closest point to the sun just outside Earth's orbit. Although this comet has skirted Earth's orbit many times, Earth has not run into its debris streams before. 2012 could be different.

Yeh, of course the officials need to come up with something for sure...

I can´t ever remember there being so many Gemi, Leo, Tauri, fuckmenids in one year.

I remember some years ago that there was talked about only one shower in a year and it was marked as a big event.
Not we have one every two weeks or seomthing and falling satellites all along. Yeh, sure.

And by the way, I never in my life saw shotting stars that much, when looking at the night sky... it was very rare. Now I see at least one almost every time I look to the stars.

Oh I'm with you. I know things have kicked into high gear.
I was questioning these "new meteors" that have arrived just in time for the Geminids.
And another thing....all these fireballs being reported.
Now they say a meteor shower is dust fragments...well what about the fireballs? What about that one that impacted off the coast of Turkey?
I guess that one was just part of the meteor shower too.
