They work hard, get an education, get training, increase their experience, and eventually can maybe, MAYBE hope to make 2/3 of that 80k you claim if they are lucky.


I'd say most average Americans , working 40hours a week or more, with experience , education and/or training make anywhere from 25k-75k. Of course, there are exceptions. Some make well over 100k easily, and others, make well over 1M-year.

It really depends on who you are, what you do for a living, what the economy is like, etc etc.

The POTENTIAL to be a millionaire has ALWAYS been far greater in America than almost ANY country. That is what so many people LOVE about America.

The problem is, the Middle Class, you know, the hard working average american who is content with just raising a family and being happy, that class is shrinking.

The middle class of the 60s-80s is like the lower middle class of today.

There are a lot of factors like cost of living. In the midwest where i live that same 450k house would probably be 150k here. Sure there are people earning higher wages but i was only stating the fact that many, many more are much closer to poverty level.

You also have to consider we do not get public health care. We do not have secure jobs, we could be outsourced in a second. No workers rights.

I know someone from Germany. They get 30 days paid vacation a year plus German holidays and there are a lot of them. If they get laid off and the company decides they want to fill the position again. They get first pick.
Paid leave for child care. Paid medical, dental. Even cash for the cab ride home with your meds that they gave you.

Here you have to pay for all that.

True, also when i was in EU I saw at the local grocery store a 6 pack of liters of sparkling water. The cost was .19 Euro. That's insane, something like that would be $6.99 here.

A lot of Americans are poor - don't believe that we all make $60-70K per year. I have a degree and work for a school system - $42,000 here. It's chicken feed, really.

The median household income in the US is a little over $44,000. That means half of the households make more than that, and half make less than that and the other half don't work. <smile>

Don't trust the stats. The living costs here are VERY high and the people who gain that much here are BIG bankers or BIG estate agents. All the other people do decent livings, like I do, for example. I consider myself very very lucky but the middle class is becoming more and more poor here, too.

The average salary in my country (Belgium) is €2000 a month. It's what my wife and I are earning, and we have a pleasant life. No excessive luxury, but a decent and joyful life.
