Thanks OP, I have a question though, I just asked it on another thread, I'm in the midwest and in the southeastern sky, I see a star or something that flashes red, green and blue, can someone tell me what that is? |
nutmeg User ID: 27310787 United States 12/13/2012 10:17 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | THE GEMINID METEOR SHOWER IS UNDERWAY: International observers are counting as many as 50 meteors per hour as Earth plunges into a stream of debris from rock comet 3200 Phaethon. Rates could double, or more, when the shower peaks on Dec. 13th and 14th. The best time to look is during the dark hours before dawn on Thursday and Friday Quoting: Dr. Acula [link to www.spaceweather.com] There is also another new meteor shower happening too! [link to science.nasa.gov] Put on some layers to keep warm Make some Cocoa, Make some Coffee... drink some whiskey... whatever you want to stay warm... But go out tonight (or right now if its dark out) and witness a spectacle! The Peak of this shower is tonight!! And its gonna be a show!! Last night was pretty impressive! I'm excited to see what tonight brings! Should be way better! Look North to East... You should see em whiz through the sky Anytime after dark... as the night drags on... they should increase. Leave the dumb phone, the TV the computer and watch the fireballs stream across the sky... Make some wishes while you are at it... I know I got half a dozen i'm gonna mumble tonight! Happy Geminid's Everyone! I'd go out there....but it's too cold! |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 9841867 United States 12/13/2012 10:25 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I saw a few! Dang ... they are "so low" in that it seems they are only 3-4 tree heights above me ... an illusion I know, but they seem so nearby. Was out for 20 mins, drinking my hot chocolate. Fingers are cold though despite gloves. Came in to warm up for about 20 mins and then will head out again. While I see Orion, Gemini, and other stars/constellations quite clearly, I do have Bojangles, Wendys, Walmart, and 2 streetlamps brightening up the place a bit. Bojangles (I think) closes at 11pm. I have to wait until 2am for Wendys to shut off their lights. I wish I had lawn chairs or such. I have to stand and crane my neck to face nearly straight up to see most of the meteors. |
