Sorry then, the only multicolored celestial object in the south east sky here in Alabama is Jupiter. Good luck figuring it out tho, and if you do find out what it is let me know. Kind of an arm chair astronomer here lol.

Also if you have an Iphone you can download an app caled Planets for free off the app store. Swap it to 3d mode and face your phone at the celestial body you are trying to identify and it should let you know. Android also has similar apps on the market, they are pretty useful for stargazers.

You are going to love astronomy, had you lived closer to me, I'd let you put my 12" dobsonian and quality eyepieces to the test any time you wanted.

I personally don't know if our solar system orbits another star system, but I look at it like this:

Put a thousand BB's into a blender and set for froth / juice. Now some of those BB' over time will establish orbits around each other. If some of those BB's had a magnetic field around them, and some did not, you'd find that over time they'd group together and establish orbital harmony with the force of the whirlpool.

It is quite possible we orbit another body in the Sagittarius arm of our galactic arm as we weave up and down through the galactic plane . We just don't know enough at this point in our current studies.

I do however find global precession fascinating as portrayed within this video and how, as we dive above and below the galactic plane the planet produces procession of the poles as well.

Like I said, there's really good science in this video, but getting to it the way this guy presents it, is a little too hippy for me.

The 21st is right around the corner, I guess if the poles start to do a slow slip, we'll know in our lifetimes.

I'd need your basic location. ( Kentucky, Indiana, etc)
I'd need you to face south, then indicate which direction it is.
I'd need you to estimate the position from the horizon to object.
I'd need you to tell me what time it is when you see it.
I'd need you to tell me what else you think you recognize in the sky.

...and then we could get started.

There is only one true answer to this December 21st 2012 and that is Christmas. Giving it a few extra days if we make it to christmas all good if not oh well. Something could start or change that day, who knows. It may be slow and gradual, it may be sudden. Only time will tell, unless of course time runs out, lol.

Not at all. It's not specifically known where it is for certain, but it does exist. It's just that we are not near it, nor are we moving across it any time soon.
